A spinal cord injury affects many systems and functions of the body that are vital to health and well-being and can result in paralysis, bowel and bladder dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, respiratory impairment, temperature regulation problems, and chronic pain. During the last two decades, long-standing beliefs about the inability of the adult nervous system to heal itself have been eroded by the flood of new information from research in the neurosciences and related fields. However, there are still no cures and the challenge of restoring function in the wake of spinal cord injuries remains extremely complex.Spinal Cord Injury examines the future directions for research with the goal of accelerating the development of cures for spinal cord injuries. The Institute of Medicine's panel of experts examines research needs and priorities and provides a set of recommendations for future research directions. Further recommendations are made for strengthening and coordinating the research infrastructure. The report was sponsored by the New York Spinal Cord Injury Research Board. Funders at federal and state agencies, academic organizations, pharmaceutical and device companies, and nonprofit organizations will all find this book an essential resource as they examine their opportunities. 606 $aSpinal cord$xWounds and injuries 606 $aSpinal cord$xWounds and injuries$xResearch$zUnited States 606 $aMedical policy 606 $aResearch 606 $aHealth Policy 606 $aResearch 606 $aState Government 606 $aSpinal Cord Injuries 607 $aUnited States 615 0$aSpinal cord$xWounds and injuries. 615 0$aSpinal cord$xWounds and injuries$xResearch 615 0$aMedical policy. 615 0$aResearch. 615 2$aHealth Policy. 615 2$aResearch. 615 2$aState Government. 615 2$aSpinal Cord Injuries. 676 $a617.4/82044 701 $aLiverman$b Catharyn T$01086332 712 02$aInstitute of Medicine (U.S.).$bCommittee on Spinal Cord Injury. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910969895003321 996 $aSpinal cord injury$94323196 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00831nam 2200253 450 001 996648170303316 005 20250319094941.0 100 $a20250319d1963----km y0itay5003 ba 101 0 $apor 102 $aBR 105 $ay 00 y 200 1 $aCasa do Brasil em Roma, Palacio Doria Pamphili$ehistorico e documentacao$fHugo Gouthier de Oliveira Gondim 210 $aRoma$cEmbaixada do Brasil$d1963 215 $a590 p., [3] carte di tav. ripiegate$cill.$d27 cm 606 0 $aArchitettura$yRoma$2BNCF 676 $a725.170945632 700 1$aGONDIM,$bHugo Gouthier : de Oliveira$01794668 801 0$aIT$bcba$gREICAT 912 $a996648170303316 951 $aXII.3.B. 438$b289504 L.M.$cXII.3.B.$d569711 959 $aBK 969 $aUMA 996 $aCasa do Brasil em Roma, Palacio Doria Pamphili$94335535 997 $aUNISA
