They were within 60 minutes of setting out to assassinate the British cabinet. Five of the conspirators were subsequently executed and another five were transported for life to Australia. The plotters were a mixture of English, Scottish and Irish tradesmen, and one was a black Jamaican. They were motivated by a desire to avenge the `Peterloo' massacre and intended to declare a republic, which they believed would encourage popular risings in London and across Britain. This volume of essays uses contemporary reports by Home Office spies and informers to assess the seriousness of the conspiracy. This book explains the conspiracy, and why you have never heard of it. 410 0$aManchester scholarship online. 606 $aCato Street Conspiracy, 1820 606 $aRevolutionaries$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aModern History$2mup 606 $aSocial & Cultural History$2bicssc 606 $aHISTORY$xEurope$xGreat Britain$xGeorgian Era (1714-1837)$2bisacsh 607 $aGreat Britain$xHistory$y1800-1837 607 $aGreat Britain$xPolitics and government$y1800-1837 615 0$aCato Street Conspiracy, 1820. 615 0$aRevolutionaries$xHistory 615 7$aModern History 615 7$aSocial & Cultural History 615 7$aHISTORY$xEurope$xGreat Britain$xGeorgian Era (1714-1837) 676 $a941.07/4092 702 $aMcElligott$b Jason$f1972- 702 $aConboy$b Martin 801 0$bUkMaJRU 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910969612703321 996 $aThe Cato Street conspiracy$94096879 997 $aUNINA
