It focuses on the interaction between diachrony and synchrony, langue and parole or, for that matter, competence and performance, I-language and ?-language. It does not see these levels as distinct linguistic domains, as much structurally oriented work does. It is important for the present purposes that such an interactionist view entails that performance effects may over time cause new grammatical code relations. Hence the importance of statistical empirical research, which led the author to adopt a predominantly corpus-based approach. 410 0$aTopics in English linguistics ;$v32. 606 $aEnglish language$xModality 606 $aEnglish language$xDiscourse analysis 606 $aEnglish language$xGrammaticalization 615 0$aEnglish language$xModality. 615 0$aEnglish language$xDiscourse analysis. 615 0$aEnglish language$xGrammaticalization. 676 $a425 686 $aHF 310$2rvk 700 $aKrug$b Manfred G.$f1966-$01556403 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910785522903321 996 $aEmerging English modals$93819071 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02091nam 2200601Ia 450 001 9910968470803321 005 20251116192245.0 010 $a1-74076-099-9 035 $a(CKB)1000000000339412 035 $a(EBL)227717 035 $a(OCoLC)57033144 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000284126 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11236351 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000284126 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10261015 035 $a(PQKB)11403451 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC227717 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL227717 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10078588 035 $a(OCoLC)780996424 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000339412 100 $a20050401d2004 uy p 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aSelected poems of Dewe Gorode $esharing as custom provides /$ftranslated and edited by Raylene Ramsay & Deborah Walker 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aCanberra, Australia $cPandanus Books, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, the Australian National University$dc2004 215 $a1 online resource (213 p.) 225 1 $aContemporary writing in the Pacific ;$v2 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a1-74076-087-5 327 $aPreliminaries; Acknowledgements; Introduction; UNDER THE ASHES OF THE CONCH SHELLS; SPEAKING TRUTH; SIGNS OF THE TIMES; THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS; About the translators; 330 $aTranslated collection of poems by New Caledonia writer Déwé Gorodé. 410 0$aContemporary writing in the Pacific ;$v2. 517 3 $aSharing as custom provides 606 $aFrench poetry 607 $aNew Caledonia$vPoetry 615 0$aFrench poetry. 676 $a841 676 $a841/.914 700 $aGorode?$b De?we?$f1949-$01890283 701 $aWalker$b Deborah$01658269 701 $aRamsay$b Raylene L$0910998 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910968470803321 996 $aSelected poems of Dewe Gorode$94532079 997 $aUNINA
