They kiss images of the Virgin, wait for a bishop's blessing-and they also carry signs asking for immigration reform, much like political protestors. It is this juxtaposition of religion and politics that Alyshia Ga?lvez investigates in Guadalupe in New York . The Virgin of Guadalupe is a profound symbol for Mexican and Mexican-American Catholics and the patron saint of their country. Her name has been invoked in war and in peace, and 606 $aEmigration and immigration$xReligious aspects$xChristianity 606 $aCivil rights$zUnited States 606 $aCitizenship$zUnited States 606 $aGuadalupe, Our Lady of 606 $aMexican Americans$zNew York$zNew York$xReligion 607 $aUnited States$xEmigration and immigration 615 0$aEmigration and immigration$xReligious aspects$xChristianity. 615 0$aCivil rights 615 0$aCitizenship 615 0$aGuadalupe, Our Lady of. 615 0$aMexican Americans$xReligion. 676 $a305.868/7207471 700 $aGa?lvez$b Alyshia$01796382 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910953566303321 996 $aGuadalupe in New York$94338106 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03960nam 2200589 a 450 001 9910968102003321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a0-8166-6328-9 035 $a(CKB)1000000000689974 035 $a(EBL)345515 035 $a(OCoLC)476162268 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000227888 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11173592 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000227888 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10270252 035 $a(PQKB)10585878 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC345515 035 $a(OCoLC)577068123 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse39759 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL345515 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10231349 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL526099 035 $a(BIP)23927489 035 $a(BIP)29523368 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000689974 100 $a20720824d1960 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe probation officer investigates $ea guide to the presentence report /$fby Paul W. Keve is an outstanding practitioner in the field of probation and parole. From his own experience and observation, he has prepared this guide to help others in an important aspect of their work. He points out: "Each probation officer makes his own contribution to the public's eventual acceptance of a constructive penal philosophy by the high quality of his daily work. If that work is to be truly and consistently rehabilitative, it must be based upon sound diagnosis of each case, and this, of course, is the concern of this book."A major task of probation officers is to investigate offenders before their courts and then to write comprehensive and analytical reports about the offenders, for the use of the court. In this book, Mr. Keve explains the philosophy of the preparation of pre-sentence reports and discusses in specific detail the techniques of preparing these reports in a significant, diagnostic way. He considers the problems of confidentiality, relationships with attorneys, techniques of interviewing, and style and format in the writing of the report. He proposes a form for a standard report, and discusses, separately, each category of material to be included. He reproduces two examples of actual (but disguised) reports in an appendix. The book will be particularly helpful to new probation officers. It will be useful, also, to the more experienced staff members, for inservice training programs, and in academic courses in the correctional field. For judges and attorneys, it provides insight into the philosophy and purposes of the probation report. 606 $aProbation 615 0$aProbation. 676 $a354.41008493 676 $a364.63 700 $aKeve$b Paul W$01869556 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910968102003321 996 $aThe probation officer investigates$94477736 997 $aUNINA
