He offers a framework for the analysis of morpheme relations based on a thorough discussion of syntagmatic and paradigmatic structure, indexical relations, zero as meaningful absence and morphological relations across grammatical categories. It is argued that when paradigmatically related morphological structures have different syntactic functions, the semantics of the paradigmatic opposition consists in the specification of functional potential. The framework is applied in three detailed studies of Danish nonfinite verbs presenting new accounts of their morphological structure, semantic coding and paradigmatic organisation. 410 0$aEmpirical Approaches to Linguistic Theory$v9. 606 $aDanish language$xVerb phrase 606 $aDanish language$xAgreement 606 $aFunctionalism (Linguistics) 606 $aDanish language$xMorphology$2fast 606 $aDanish language$xVerb$2fast 615 0$aDanish language$xVerb phrase. 615 0$aDanish language$xAgreement. 615 0$aFunctionalism (Linguistics) 615 7$aDanish language$xMorphology. 615 7$aDanish language$xVerb. 676 $a439.8/156 700 $aNielsen$b Peter Juul$f1979-$01711848 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910968040503321 996 $aFunctional structure in morphology and the case of nonfinite verbs$94103477 997 $aUNINA
