Digging through court records, newspapers, government documents, and university archives and conducting private interviews, Albert J. Figone finds that game rigging has been pervasive and nationwide throughout most of the sports' history. The insidious practice has spread to implicate not only bookies and unscrupulous gamblers but also college administrators, athletic organizers, coaches, fellow students, and the athletes themselves. Naming the players, coaches, gamblers, and go-betweens involved, Figone discusses numerous college basketball and football games reported to have been fixed and describes the various methods used to gain unfair advantage, inside information, or undue profit. His survey of college football includes early years of gambling on games between established schools such as Yale, Princeton, and Harvard; Notre Dame's All-American halfback and skilled gambler George Gipp; and the 1962 allegations of insider information between Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant and former Georgia coach James Wallace "Wally" Butts; and many other recent incidents. Notable events in basketball include the 1951 scandal involving City College of New York and six other schools throughout the East Coast and the Midwest; the 1961 point-shaving incident that put a permanent end to the Dixie Classic tournament; the 1978 scheme in which underworld figures recruited and bribed several Boston College players to ensure a favorable point spread; the 1994-95 Northwestern scandal in which players bet against their own team; and other recent examples of compromised gameplay and gambling"--$cProvided by publisher. 410 0$aSport and Society 606 $aSports betting$zUnited States 606 $aFootball$xBetting$zUnited States 606 $aBasketball$xBetting$zUnited States 606 $aCollege sports$xEconomic aspects$zUnited States 615 0$aSports betting 615 0$aFootball$xBetting 615 0$aBasketball$xBetting 615 0$aCollege sports$xEconomic aspects 676 $a796.04/3 686 $aSPO019000$aGAM004050$aEDU015000$2bisacsh 700 $aFigone$b Al$01861021 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910967756903321 996 $aCheating the spread$94467037 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02592nam 2200589Ia 450 001 9910956100603321 005 20251117070138.0 010 $a1-61209-667-0 035 $a(CKB)2670000000094599 035 $a(EBL)3019081 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000524994 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11325127 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000524994 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10487002 035 $a(PQKB)11414854 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3019081 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3019081 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10662888 035 $a(OCoLC)923660276 035 $a(BIP)43288905 035 $a(BIP)26479641 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000094599 100 $a20090106d2009 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aPractical rapid ECG interpretation (PREI) /$fAbraham G. In some patients, such as those who have experienced an ST elevation myocardial infarction, an accurately interpreted ECG is one of the most effective guides to treatment and management. This book describes a quick, and practical 5-step method of ECG interpretation that can be used to diagnose all important clinical conditions. This book is intended for non-cardiologist clinicians and health care providers such as emergency medicine physicians, internists, intensivists, family physicians, and nurses in monitored and intensive care units. 410 0$aCardiology research and clinical developments series. 606 $aElectrocardiography 606 $aCardiography 615 0$aElectrocardiography. 615 0$aCardiography. 676 $a616.1/207547 700 $aKocheril$b Abraham G$01868669 701 $aSovari$b Ali A$01868670 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910956100603321 996 $aPractical rapid ECG interpretation (PREI)$94476652 997 $aUNINA
