Although there has been much research on other aspects of gender and the body, this is one of the few books to examine menstruation and the first to explore how it plays a part in power interactions between boys and girls. Talking openly in single- and mixed-gender settings, individuals and groups of high school?age girls and boys share their interpretations and experiences of menstruation. Author Laura Fingerson reveals that while teens have negative feelings about menstruation, teen girls use their experiences of menstruation as a source of embodied power in their interactions with other girls and with boys. She also explores how boys deal with their own reduced power. The book extends our theoretical and analytical understanding of youth, gender, power, and embodiment by providing a more balanced view of adolescent social life. 606 $aTeenage girls$xPsychology 606 $aMenstruation$xSocial aspects 606 $aHuman body$xSocial aspects 606 $aSex role 615 0$aTeenage girls$xPsychology. 615 0$aMenstruation$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aHuman body$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aSex role. 676 $a305.235/2 700 $aFingerson$b Laura$f1974-$01805737 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910966548603321 996 $aGirls in power$94354501 997 $aUNINA LEADER 06023nam 2200697 a 450 001 9910953637903321 005 20251116141407.0 010 $a1-4384-0137-X 010 $a0-585-09039-4 035 $a(CKB)111000211282702 035 $a(EBL)3406937 035 $a(OCoLC)42636895 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000187887 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11182515 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000187887 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10141608 035 $a(PQKB)10770055 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3406937 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3406937 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10020662 035 $a(BIP)76147991 035 $a(BIP)887720 035 $a(EXLCZ)99111000211282702 100 $a19940527d1995 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 04$aThe knowledge base in educational administration $emultiple perspectives /$fedited by Robert Donmoyer, Michael Imber, James Joseph Scheurich 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aAlbany $cState University of New York Press$dc1995 215 $a1 online resource (175 p.) 225 1 $aSUNY series in educational leadership 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a0-7914-2386-7 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aCONTENTS; INTRODUCTION: KNOWLEDGE BASE PROBLEMS IN EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATION; PART I. For scholars and practitioners who are interested in or are concerned about knowledge-based issues, this book provides a needed antidote to narrow discussions of foundational issues. The editors of this book maintain that discussions of a knowledge base in educational administration have typically been limited to a fairly traditional range of scholarly commentary reflective of the status quo within departments of educational administration over the past several decades. Other views, such as feminist views, race/ethnic-based orientations, those that dispute the very idea of a knowledge base, and those that simply expand the traditional range, have been given little attention within the knowledge-base discourse. The purpose of this book is, thus, to open up this discourse by broadening the range of viewpoints being considered. Robert Donmoyer is Professor, Educational Policy & Leadership, The Ohio State University. He is co-editor, with Raylene Kos, of At-Risk Students: Portraits, Policies, Programs, and Practices , also published by SUNY Press. Michael Imber is Professor, Educational Policy & Leadership, University of Kansas. James Joseph Scheurich is Assistant Professor, Educational Administration, The University of Texas at Austin. 410 0$aSUNY series in educational leadership. 606 $aSchool management and organization$zUnited States$xPhilosophy 606 $aSchool management and organization$xSocial aspects$zUnited States 606 $aSchool supervision$zUnited States 615 0$aSchool management and organization$xPhilosophy. 615 0$aSchool management and organization$xSocial aspects 615 0$aSchool supervision 676 $a371.2/001 701 $aDonmoyer$b Robert$01860821 701 $aImber$b Michael$0727953 701 $aScheurich$b James Joseph$f1944-$0790941 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910953637903321 996 $aThe knowledge base in educational administration$94478282 997 $aUNINA
