The Demystification Program, as it was called, was so urgent it even preceded the building of a national road system. In Unmasking the State, Mike McGovern attempts to understand why this program was so important to the emerging state and examines the complex role it had in creating a unified national identity. In doing so, he tells a dramatic story of cat and mouse where minority groups cling desperately to their important- and outlawed-customs. Primarily focused on the communities in the country's southeastern rainforest region-people known as Forestiers-the Demystification Program operated via a paradox. At the same time it banned rituals from Forestiers' day-to-day lives, it appropriated them into a state-sponsored program of folklorization. McGovern points to an important purpose for this: by objectifying this polytheistic group's rituals, the state created a viable counterexample against which the Muslim majority could define proper modernity. Describing the intertwined relationship between national and local identity making, McGovern showcases the coercive power and the unintended consequences involved when states attempt to engineer culture. 606 $aSOCIAL SCIENCE / General$2bisacsh 607 $aGuinea$xPolitics and government$y20th century 607 $aGuinea$xHistory$y20th century 615 7$aSOCIAL SCIENCE / General. 676 $a966.52/03 686 $aLB 40690$2rvk 700 $aMcGovern$b Mike$01811182 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910965950803321 996 $aUnmasking the state$94362889 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03170nam 22004813 450 001 9910764254903321 005 20250917010522.0 010 $a979-1-221-50158-2 035 $a(CKB)5860000000452623 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC31860944 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL31860944 035 $a(OCoLC)1450626587 035 $a(Exl-AI)31860944 035 $a(EXLCZ)995860000000452623 100 $a20241230d2023 uy 0 101 0 $aita 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 13$aL' organizzazione Delle Biblioteche 205 $a1st ed. 210 1$aFlorence :$cFirenze University Press,$d2023. 210 4$d©2023. 215 $a1 online resource (226 pages) 225 1 $aBiblioteche and Bibliotecari = Libraries and Librarians Series ;$vv.9 311 08$a979-1-221-50157-5 327 $atitle page -- copyright page -- table of contents -- La biblioteca scolastica come strumento di educazione all?information literacy -- Carlo Bianchini -- Nota all?edizione italiana -- L?organizzazione delle biblioteche -- Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan -- Conspectus -- 1. This is the background for the publishing of Ranganathan's The Organization of libraries. With this book, Ranganathan aims «to relate library organization to education» and to provide «a description of library technique in brief». The threefold structure of the work clearly shows its objective of being a means of promotion for a new national library system in India, and the role that should be played by school libraries in this process. Part 1 is devoted to Library and Education, Part 2 to Library practice, and Part 3 to The national library system. 410 0$aBiblioteche & bibliotecari ;$v9. 606 $aLibraries and education$7Generated by AI 606 $aLibrary science$7Generated by AI 615 0$aLibraries and education 615 0$aLibrary science 700 $aRanganathan$b Shiyali Ramamrita$018946 701 $aBianchini$b Carlo$0233479 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910764254903321 996 $aL' organizzazione Delle Biblioteche$94306006 997 $aUNINA
