This study presents a bibliographic analysis of 661 papers on taxonomy, distribution, status, statistics, fisheries, bycatch, biologic and ecologic parameters on age and growth, food and feeding habits, reproductive biology and stock assessment of elasmobranchs in Mediterranean and Black Sea. Focusing particularly on elasmobranchs in the GFCM area, it shows that cartilaginous species, including sharks, rays and chimaeras, are by far the most endangered group of marine fish in the Mediterranean Sea, with 31 species critically endangered, endangered or vulnerable. The biological characteristics of elasmobranches make them more vulnerable to fishing pressure than most teleost fish, while overfishing, wide use of non-selective fishing practices and habitat degradation are leading to dramatic declines of these species in the Mediterranean Sea. 410 0$aGeneral Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) : Studies and Revi 606 $aChondrichthyes$zMediterranean Sea$vBibliography 606 $aChondrichthyes$zBlack Sea$vBibliography 606 $aChondrichthyes$xConservation$zMediterranean Sea$vBibliography 606 $aChondrichthyes$xConservation$zBlack Sea$vBibliography 606 $aMarine biodiversity conservation$zMediterranean Sea$vBibliography 606 $aMarine biodiversity conservation$zBlack Sea$vBibliography 615 0$aChondrichthyes 615 0$aChondrichthyes 615 0$aChondrichthyes$xConservation 615 0$aChondrichthyes$xConservation 615 0$aMarine biodiversity conservation 615 0$aMarine biodiversity conservation 700 $aBradai$b Mohamed Nejmeddine$01861704 701 $aSaidi$b Bechir$01861705 701 $aEnajjar$b Samira$01861706 712 02$aFood and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. 712 02$aGeneral Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910963146803321 996 $aElasmobranchs of the Mediterranean and Black Sea$94467881 997 $aUNINA
