The first phase of the project surveyed the interests of recent PhDs in science and mathematics in pursuing careers in secondary education. Analysis of the Phase I data suggests that a significant percentage of PhDs might be interested in pursuing careers in secondary education under some circumstances. This report from the second phase of the project presents a proposal for a national demonstration program to determine how one might prepare PhDs to be productive members of the K-12 education community. The proposed program is designed to help meet the needs of the nation's schools, while providing further career opportunities for recent PhDs in science, mathematics and engineering. 410 0$aCompass series. 606 $aScience teachers$xSupply and demand$zUnited States 606 $aMathematics teachers$xSupply and demand$zUnited States 606 $aHigh school teachers$xSupply and demand$zUnited States 606 $aDoctor of philosophy degree 615 0$aScience teachers$xSupply and demand 615 0$aMathematics teachers$xSupply and demand 615 0$aHigh school teachers$xSupply and demand 615 0$aDoctor of philosophy degree. 676 $a507.1/073 712 02$aNational Research Council (U.S.).$bCommittee on Attracting Science and Mathematics PhDs to K-12 Education. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910962035303321 996 $aAttracting PhDs to K-12 education$94366676 997 $aUNINA
