In its interior lie 15,000 lakes, most of them formed by the glacier around 10,000 years ago. The state is laced with more than 12,600 rivers and streams, including 2,700 trout streams and three designated as National Wild and Scenic Rivers. These streams and rivers trickle or surge over several dozen waterfalls that mesmerize thousands of visitors every year. Wisconsin's economy largely depends on its waters, which support most of the state's major industries, including manufacturing, dairy farming, paper production, commercial fishing, cranberry production, and tourism. Each of Wisconsin's waterscapes has a story to tell. Some stories begin hundreds of millions of years ago with the early formation of the state's landscapes. Others begin thousands of years ago with the advance and retreat of the glaciers. Still others are human stories of exploration and settlement of the land and the development of societies and economies. These stories add up to many thousands, all woven together in time and space by the flow of Wisconsin's waters. In fact, water has done much to shape the history of the state. This book looks back through the distant past to the ancient origins of Wisconsin's waterways, beginning with geology-how the bedrock of the state was formed. This view of the past also takes in the natural history that has shaped, and been shaped by, water and waterways since the geologic stage for that story was built. And it includes early stories of how humans lived along Wisconsin's waterways before people began to engineer and dramatically change the waterways for their own uses"--$cProvided by publisher. 606 $aHydrology$zWisconsin 606 $aBodies of water$zWisconsin 615 0$aHydrology 615 0$aBodies of water 676 $a551.4809775 676 $a551.4809775 700 $aSpoolman$b Scott$01827731 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 912 $a9911009178703321 996 $aWisconsin waters$94395866 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03223nam 2200625Ia 450 001 9910961866703321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a1-281-13319-1 010 $a9786611133191 010 $a0-8261-2478-X 035 $a(CKB)1000000000576936 035 $a(EBL)306123 035 $a(OCoLC)437186530 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000169342 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11149731 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000169342 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10203116 035 $a(PQKB)11595130 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL306123 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10265612 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL113319 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC306123 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000576936 100 $a20070719d2008 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aHealing from violence $eLatino men's journey to a new masculinity /$fChristauria Welland, Neil Ribner 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aNew York $cSpringer Pub.$dc2008 215 $a1 online resource (321 p.) 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a0-8261-2477-1 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (p. 269-284) and index. 327 $aContents; Foreword; Preface; Acknowledgments; 1 What Is Intimate Partner Violence?; 2 Why Do Men Assault Their Partners?; 3 Latino Culture: Approaches to Therapy; 4 Who Are the Men Being Treated for IPV? According to the 2000 Census, Latinos accounted for 12.5% of the US population, or 35.3 million residents. The influence of this large and growing demographic can be seen throughout every discipline, including social work, where numerous books on multicultural assessment, counseling, and research have begun to appear. One area of inquiry, however, that remains largely unexplored is domestic violence within Latino families.
