Concluding Remarks; References 330 3 $aDuring the first half of 2008, Sri Lanka witnessed significantly higher inflation than most other emerging Asian countries. Inflation has since declined amid declining world commodity prices and tight monetary policy. Given the sensitivity to global commodity prices, a core inflation measure could be useful for monetary policy. The purpose of this paper is to compare the performance of Sri Lanka's existing official measure of core inflation against alternative measures. Our findings suggest that the existing measure does contain information about the future path of headline information, but may be inadequate as a communication tool for the Central Bank. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2009/167 606 $aInflation (Finance)$zSri Lanka 606 $aMonetary policy$zSri Lanka 606 $aAgriculture: Aggregate Supply and Demand Analysis$2imf 606 $aBusiness cycles$2imf 606 $aConsumer price indexes$2imf 606 $aCyclical indicators$2imf 606 $aDeflation$2imf 606 $aEconometric Modeling: General$2imf 606 $aEconomic growth$2imf 606 $aEnergy: Demand and Supply$2imf 606 $aFood prices$2imf 606 $aFuel prices$2imf 606 $aInflation$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aMonetary Policy$2imf 606 $aPrice indexes$2imf 606 $aPrice Level$2imf 606 $aPrices$2imf 606 $aPrices, Business Fluctuations, and Cycles: General (includes Measurement and Data)$2imf 607 $aSri Lanka$2imf 615 0$aInflation (Finance) 615 0$aMonetary policy 615 7$aAgriculture: Aggregate Supply and Demand Analysis 615 7$aBusiness cycles 615 7$aConsumer price indexes 615 7$aCyclical indicators 615 7$aDeflation 615 7$aEconometric Modeling: General 615 7$aEconomic growth 615 7$aEnergy: Demand and Supply 615 7$aFood prices 615 7$aFuel prices 615 7$aInflation 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aMonetary Policy 615 7$aPrice indexes 615 7$aPrice Level 615 7$aPrices 615 7$aPrices, Business Fluctuations, and Cycles: General (includes Measurement and Data) 676 $a332.495 700 $aGupta$b Souvik$01816612 701 $aSaxegaard$b Magnus$01816355 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bAsia and Pacific Dept. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910961803803321 996 $aMeasures of Underlying Inflation in Sri Lanka$94372857 997 $aUNINA
