I Came From Ma?d and Returned to Ma?d (IFA 6814)Tales 330 $aFolktales from Eastern Europe presents 71 tales from Ashkenasic culture in the most important collection of Jewish folktales ever published. It is the second volume in Folktales of the Jews, the five-volume series to be released over the next several years, in the tradition of Louis Ginzberg's classic, Legends of the Jews. The tales here and the others in this series have been selected from the Israel Folktale Archives at The University of Haifa, Israel (IFA), a treasure house of Jewish lore that has remained largely unavailable to the entire world until now. Since the creation of the State of Israel, the IFA has collected more than 20,000 tales from newly arrived immigrants, long-lost stories shared by their families from around the world. The tales come from the major ethno-linguistic communities of the Jewish world and are representative of a wide variety of subjects and motifs, especially rich in Jewish content and context. Each of the tales is accompanied by in-depth commentary that explains the tale's cultural, historical, and literary background and its similarity to other tales in the IFA collection, and extensive scholarly notes. There is also an introduction that describes the Ashkenasic culture and its folk narrative tradition, a world map of the areas covered, illustrations, biographies of the collectors and narrators, tale type and motif indexes, a subject index, and a comprehensive bibliography. Until the establishment of the IFA, we had had only limited access to the wide range of Jewish folk narratives. Even in Israel, the gathering place of the most wide-ranging cross-section of world Jewry, these folktales have remained largely unknown. Many of the communities no longer exist as cohesive societies in their representative lands; the Holocaust, migration, and changes in living styles have made the continuation of these tales impossible. This volume and the others to come will be monuments to a rich but vanishing oral tradition 410 0$aFolktales of the Jews. 606 $aJews$vFolklore 606 $aJewish legends 606 $aTales 606 $aJewish legends$xHistory and criticism 606 $aTales$xHistory and criticism 607 $aEurope, Eastern$vFolklore 615 0$aJews 615 0$aJewish legends. 615 0$aTales. 615 0$aJewish legends$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aTales$xHistory and criticism. 676 $a398.2089/924 701 $aBen-Amos$b Dan$0624851 701 $aNoy$b Dov$01866558 701 $aFrankel$b Ellen$01866559 712 02$aArkhiyon ha-sipur ha-amami be-Yisrael (Haifa, Israel) 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910961448903321 996 $aFolktales of the Jews$94473964 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04200nam 2200553 a 450 001 9910962074003321 005 20251117065757.0 010 $a1-61324-427-4 035 $a(CKB)2670000000090584 035 $a(EBL)3019342 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000472449 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12130186 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000472449 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10435092 035 $a(PQKB)11010966 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3019342 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3019342 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10670907 035 $a(OCoLC)923660617 035 $a(BIP)27224899 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000090584 100 $a20100916d2009 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aPsychology of burnout $epredictors and coping mechanisms /$fRachel V.
