These countries are Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu. The study explains that the present exchange rate regimes-comprising pegging to a basket of currencies for five countries and the floating arrangement for Papua New Guinea-have generally succeeded in avoiding inflationary, balance of payments, external debt, and financial system problems. The study concludes that adopting a common currency in the Pacific would require greater convergence of domestic policies and substantial strengthening of regional policies, which would take time to achieve. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/234 606 $aMonetary unions$zIslands of the Pacific 606 $aMoney$zIslands of the Pacific 606 $aCurrencies$2imf 606 $aCurrency$2imf 606 $aDevelopment Planning and Policy: Trade Policy$2imf 606 $aExchange rate arrangements$2imf 606 $aExchange rate policy$2imf 606 $aExchange rates$2imf 606 $aExports and Imports$2imf 606 $aFactor Movement$2imf 606 $aFinancial Aspects of Economic Integration$2imf 606 $aForeign Exchange Policy$2imf 606 $aForeign Exchange$2imf 606 $aForeign exchange$2imf 606 $aGovernment and the Monetary System$2imf 606 $aInternational economics$2imf 606 $aMonetary economics$2imf 606 $aMonetary Systems$2imf 606 $aMonetary unions$2imf 606 $aMoney and Monetary Policy$2imf 606 $aMoney$2imf 606 $aPayment Systems$2imf 606 $aRegimes$2imf 606 $aStandards$2imf 607 $aPapua New Guinea$2imf 615 0$aMonetary unions 615 0$aMoney 615 7$aCurrencies 615 7$aCurrency 615 7$aDevelopment Planning and Policy: Trade Policy 615 7$aExchange rate arrangements 615 7$aExchange rate policy 615 7$aExchange rates 615 7$aExports and Imports 615 7$aFactor Movement 615 7$aFinancial Aspects of Economic Integration 615 7$aForeign Exchange Policy 615 7$aForeign Exchange 615 7$aForeign exchange 615 7$aGovernment and the Monetary System 615 7$aInternational economics 615 7$aMonetary economics 615 7$aMonetary Systems 615 7$aMonetary unions 615 7$aMoney and Monetary Policy 615 7$aMoney 615 7$aPayment Systems 615 7$aRegimes 615 7$aStandards 700 $aOrsmond$b David$01816605 701 $aBrowne$b Christopher$01630698 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bAsia and Pacific Department. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910961253803321 996 $aPacific Island Countries$94372843 997 $aUNINA
