It presents research that describes these new methods in a very diverse group of settings: middle school biology, high school physics, and college chemistry classrooms. Mental models in these areas such as understanding the structure of the lungs or cells, molecular structures and reaction mechanisms in chemistry, or causes of current flow in electricity are notoriously difficult for many students to learn. Yet these lie at the core of conceptual understanding in these areas. The studies focus on a variety of teaching strategies such as discrepant questioning, analogies, animations, model competition, and hands on activities. Five different levels of organization for teaching strategies are described, from those operating over months (design of the sequence of units in a curriculum) to those operating over minutes ( teaching tactics for guiding discussion minute by minute). 410 0$aModels and Modeling in Science Education,$x2213-2260 ;$v2 606 $aLearning, Psychology of 606 $aScience$xStudy and teaching 606 $aEducation 606 $aTeachers$xTraining of 606 $aInstructional Psychology 606 $aScience Education 606 $aEducation 606 $aTeaching and Teacher Education 615 0$aLearning, Psychology of. 615 0$aScience$xStudy and teaching. 615 0$aEducation. 615 0$aTeachers$xTraining of. 615 14$aInstructional Psychology. 615 24$aScience Education. 615 24$aEducation. 615 24$aTeaching and Teacher Education. 676 $a507 676 $a507.1 701 $aClement$b John$f1942-$01791587 701 $aRea-Ramirez$b Mary Anne$01791588 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910954191403321 996 $aModel Based Learning and Instruction in Science$94329238 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02797nam 2200685Ia 450 001 9910960060003321 005 20251116173603.0 010 $a1-134-26995-1 010 $a1-134-26996-X 010 $a1-280-24417-8 010 $a9786610244171 010 $a0-203-68718-3 024 7 $a10.4324/9780203687185 035 $a(CKB)1000000000255782 035 $a(EBL)254271 035 $a(OCoLC)475967430 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000262921 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11236229 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000262921 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10270948 035 $a(PQKB)11643176 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC254271 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL254271 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10163449 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL24417 035 $a(OCoLC)437162122 035 $a(OCoLC)62325867 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000255782 100 $a20050201d2005 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aTurkey and the war on terror $e"for thirty years we fought alone" /$fAndrew Mango 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aRoutledge $cLondon$dc2005 215 $a1 online resource (121 p.) 225 1 $aContemporary Security Studies 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a0-415-35002-6 311 08$a0-415-35001-8 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 327 $aBOOK COVER; TITLE; COPYRIGHT; CONTENTS; ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS; ACRONYMS; INTRODUCTION; 1 TERROR DECLARES WAR ON TURKEY; 2 KEEPING THE DEATH WISH ALIVE; 3 SEPARATIST TERROR; 4 THE ABUSE OF RELIGION; 5 FREEDOM FROM FEAR; POSTSCRIPT; NOTES; BIBLIOGRAPHY; INDEX 330 $aSince the 1970s, Turkey has suffered 35,000 deaths through terrorism, yet the PKK terror group was only recognized as such by the European Union in 2002.The realization that terrorism poses a world-wide threat is now forcing a keen reassessment of the struggle which Turkey has had to wage with terror for over thirty years while the world looked on. Terror is clearly now a key part of the international agenda and this authoritative account details and establishes the Turkish experience. This chronological account of terrorist attacks inside Turkey and against Turkish targets out 410 0$aContemporary Security Studies 606 $aTerrorism$zTurkey$xHistory 607 $aTurkey$xPolitics and government$y1960-1980 607 $aTurkey$xPolitics and government$y1980- 615 0$aTerrorism$xHistory. 676 $a956.103 686 $a89.58$2bcl 700 $aMango$b Andrew$0247635 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910960060003321 996 $aTurkey and the war on terror$94492452 997 $aUNINA
