Reconsidering the Forest Management Problem. 330 $aThis book is devoted to the study of optimal control problems arising in forest management, an important and fascinating topic in mathematical economics studied by many researchers over the years. The volume studies the forest management problem by analyzing a class of optimal control problems that contains it and showing the existence of optimal solutions over infinite horizon. It also studies the structure of approximate solutions on finite intervals and their turnpike properties, as well as the stability of the turnpike phenomenon and the structure of approximate solutions on finite intervals in the regions close to the end points. The book is intended for mathematicians interested in the optimization theory, optimal control and their applications to the economic theory. 410 0$aSpringerBriefs in Optimization,$x2190-8354 606 $aCalculus of variations 606 $aCalculus of Variations and Optimal Control; Optimization$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M26016 615 0$aCalculus of variations. 615 14$aCalculus of Variations and Optimal Control; Optimization. 676 $a338.1749021 676 $a634.92 700 $aZaslavski$b Alexander J$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0721713 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910349322403321 996 $aOptimal Control Problems Arising in Forest Management$91733480 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03287nam 2200697Ia 450 001 9910968921103321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a9780791494035 010 $a0791494039 010 $a9781441607782 010 $a1441607781 024 7 $a10.1515/9780791494035 035 $a(CKB)1000000000755883 035 $a(OCoLC)365410052 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebrary10587121 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000152950 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11165178 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000152950 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10392907 035 $a(PQKB)10397150 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3407923 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10587121 035 $a(DE-B1597)684068 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780791494035 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3407923 035 $a(Perlego)2672613 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000755883 100 $a20080618d2009 ub 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcn||||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 14$aThe failure of civil society? $ethe third sector and the state in contemporary Japan /$fAkihiro Ogawa 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aAlbany $cSUNY Press$dc2009 215 $a1 online resource (288 p.) 300 $aBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph 311 08$a9780791493960 311 08$a0791493962 311 08$a9780791493953 311 08$a0791493954 327 $tFront Matter -- $tContents -- $tIllustrations -- $tAcknowledgments -- $tIntroduction -- $tKawazoe -- $tNPO: A New Third Sector -- $tInvited by the State -- $tPower and Contested Rationalities -- $tShimin in Japanese Society -- $tEpilogue: Initiating Change -- $tAppendix 1 -- $tAppendix 2 -- $tAppendix 3 -- $tNotes -- $tReferences -- $tJapanese Glossary -- $tIndex 330 $aWinner of the 2010 Japan NPO Research Association Book AwardThe global discourse on civil society is both complicated and enriched in this participant study of Japan's volunteers, known as the third sector. In the wake of the Japanese government's failed response to the 1995 earthquake, volunteers took the lead in providing aid to victims. This recent sea change in Japanese society was quickly followed by the 1998 NPO Law (nonprofit organization law) that encourages third sector activities. Drawing on his fieldwork at one of the new NPOs, Akihiro Ogawa explores in detail the social and historical particularities of Japanese "civil society" or shimin shakai, revisiting how the concept is interpreted and practiced by the volunteers themselves. Civil society, Ogawa argues, can best be understood as an active, dynamic process rather than as a static, abstract model. 606 $aNonprofit organizations$zJapan 606 $aNonprofit organizations$xGovernment policy$zJapan 606 $aCivil society$zJapan 606 $aNon-governmental organizations$zJapan 615 0$aNonprofit organizations 615 0$aNonprofit organizations$xGovernment policy 615 0$aCivil society 615 0$aNon-governmental organizations 676 $a338.7/4 700 $aOgawa$b Akihiro$f1968-$01617302 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910968921103321 996 $aThe failure of civil society$94359545 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03229nam 2200709Ia 450 001 9910959905703321 005 20251116175208.0 010 $a1-134-33729-9 010 $a0-203-68318-8 010 $a1-280-03735-0 010 $a9786610037353 010 $a0-203-39060-1 035 $a(CKB)1000000000248486 035 $a(EBL)200573 035 $a(OCoLC)85894183 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000291482 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11213928 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000291482 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10254038 035 $a(PQKB)10521745 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC200573 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL200573 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10101258 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL3735 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000248486 100 $a20030702d2004 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aChina's scientific elite /$fCong Cao 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aLondon ;$aNew York $cRoutledgeCurzon$d2004 215 $a1 online resource (269 p.) 225 1 $aRoutledgeCurzon studies on China in transition ;$v21 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a0-415-64881-5 311 08$a0-415-32757-1 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (p. 225-249) and index. 327 $aCover; CHINA'S SCIENTIFIC ELITE; ROUTLEDGECURZON STUDIES ON CHINA IN TRANSITION; Title Page; Copyright Page; Table of Contents; List of tables; Acknowledgments; Abbreviations; 1 Introduction; 2 China's science in perspective; 3 The evolution of an academic honor; 4 Social origins; 5 The influence of elite mentors on students; 6 The characteristics of research and becoming elite; 7 "Red" or "Expert"; 8 Elections of scientists into the elite group; 9 Toward a better understanding of China's scientific elite; Appendix: interviewing China's scientific elite; Notes; Bibliography; Index 330 $aChina's Scientific Elite is a study of those scientists holding China's highest academic honour - membership of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Having carried out extensive systematic data collection of CAS members Cao examines the social stratification system of the Chinese science community and the way in which politics and political interference has effected the stratification. The book then goes on to compare the Chinese system to the stratification of the US scientific elite. The conclusions are fascinating, not least because one national elite resides in a democratic liberal so 410 0$aRoutledgeCurzon studies on China in transition ;$v21. 606 $aScience$xSocial aspects$zChina 606 $aScientists$zChina 606 $aElite (Social sciences)$zChina 607 $aChina$xIntellectual life$y1976- 615 0$aScience$xSocial aspects 615 0$aScientists 615 0$aElite (Social sciences) 676 $a306.450951 676 $a331.7/615/0951 676 $a331.76150951 686 $a71.30$2bcl 700 $aCao$b Cong$f1959-$01881094 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910959905703321 996 $aChina's scientific elite$94495431 997 $aUNINA
