CONCLUSIONS AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS""; ""REFERENCES"" 330 3 $aThe positive impact of foreign aid is limited by the erratic behavior of aid flows. The introduction in 1999 of various initiatives anchored in Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs) which were aimed at strengthening coordination among donors, improving the design of financial support programs, and improving domestic records of policy implementation should have led to an improvement in the time series properties of aid flows. We find no evidence of any fundamental changes in the way aid has been delivered in the past five years. If anything, aid volatility has worsened somewhat and the information value of long-term lending commitments has declined. We take these results to mean that the main causes of the volatility and unpredictability of aid, and the broader issue of macroeconomic instability in low-income countries, have not been addressed in a systematic manner by the donor community. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/065 606 $aEconomic assistance 606 $aInternational economic relations 606 $aAid flows$2imf 606 $aBanks$2imf 606 $aCurrency$2imf 606 $aDepository Institutions$2imf 606 $aDevelopment assistance$2imf 606 $aEconomic assistance$2imf 606 $aExports and Imports$2imf 606 $aFinance$2imf 606 $aFinance: General$2imf 606 $aFinancial risk management$2imf 606 $aForeign Aid$2imf 606 $aForeign Exchange$2imf 606 $aForeign exchange$2imf 606 $aGeneral Financial Markets: Government Policy and Regulation$2imf 606 $aIndustries: Financial Services$2imf 606 $aInternational economics$2imf 606 $aInternational relief$2imf 606 $aLoans$2imf 606 $aMicro Finance Institutions$2imf 606 $aMortgages$2imf 606 $aProcyclicality$2imf 606 $aPurchasing power parity$2imf 607 $aUnited States$2imf 615 0$aEconomic assistance. 615 0$aInternational economic relations. 615 7$aAid flows 615 7$aBanks 615 7$aCurrency 615 7$aDepository Institutions 615 7$aDevelopment assistance 615 7$aEconomic assistance 615 7$aExports and Imports 615 7$aFinance 615 7$aFinance: General 615 7$aFinancial risk management 615 7$aForeign Aid 615 7$aForeign Exchange 615 7$aForeign exchange 615 7$aGeneral Financial Markets: Government Policy and Regulation 615 7$aIndustries: Financial Services 615 7$aInternational economics 615 7$aInternational relief 615 7$aLoans 615 7$aMicro Finance Institutions 615 7$aMortgages 615 7$aProcyclicality 615 7$aPurchasing power parity 700 $aHamann$b A$01816122 701 $aBulir$b Ales$0862712 712 02$aIMF Institute. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910959817303321 996 $aVolatility of Development Aid$94371798 997 $aUNINA
