REPLY TO HILARY PUTNAM'S ""AN EXAMINATION OF GRU?NBAUM'S PHILOSOPHY OF GEOMETRY""; INDEX 330 $a Geometry and Chronometry in Philosophical Perspective was first published in 1968. Minnesota Archive Editions uses digital technology to make long-unavailable books once again accessible, and are published unaltered from the original University of Minnesota Press editions. In this volume Professor Gru?nbaum substantially extends and comments upon his essay "Geometry, Chronometry, and Empiricism," which was first published in Volume III of the Minnesota Studies in the Philosophy of Science. Commenting on the essay when it first appeared J. J. C. Smart wrote in Mind (England): "In my opinion Adolf Gru?nbaum's paper ... supersedes nearly all that has been written on the logical status of physical geometry and chronometry." The full text of the essay is given here with the author's extension of it and his discussion of some of the critical comment it has evoked, particularly, a critique published by Hilary Putnam. Adolph Gru?nbaum is Andrew Mellon Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh and the current president of the Philosophy of Science Association. 606 $aRelativity (Physics) 606 $aSpace and time 615 0$aRelativity (Physics) 615 0$aSpace and time. 676 $a530/.01 700 $aGru?nbaum$b Adolf$045108 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910959528203321 996 $aGeometry and Chronometry in Philosophical Perspective$9354478 997 $aUNINA
