CONCLUDING REMARKS"" 330 3 $aThis paper examines the role of financial development and financial structure in explaining cross-country diffusion of information communication technology (ICT). Using panel data for 76 emerging and advanced countries for the period 1990-2003, the paper finds that credit and stock market development tends to foster ICT development. Financial structure, however, does not appear to have any significant relationship with ICT development. The conclusions of the paper highlight the role of financial development in the market for knowledge-based products, and are consistent with theoretical predictions. The finding that financial development is an important determinant of ICT development implies that countries with underdeveloped financial markets may continue to lag behind in the use of ICT. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/258 606 $aCapital market 606 $aDigital divide 606 $aDemographic Economics: General$2imf 606 $aDemography$2imf 606 $aExports and Imports$2imf 606 $aFinance$2imf 606 $aFinance: General$2imf 606 $aFinancial Markets and the Macroeconomy$2imf 606 $aFinancial sector development$2imf 606 $aFinancial services industry$2imf 606 $aForeign direct investment$2imf 606 $aGeneral Financial Markets: General (includes Measurement and Data)$2imf 606 $aInformation technology in revenue administration$2imf 606 $aInternational Investment$2imf 606 $aInvestments, Foreign$2imf 606 $aLong-term Capital Movements$2imf 606 $aPopulation & demography$2imf 606 $aPopulation and demographics$2imf 606 $aPopulation$2imf 606 $aPublic finance & taxation$2imf 606 $aPublic Finance$2imf 606 $aRevenue$2imf 606 $aStock exchanges$2imf 606 $aStock markets$2imf 606 $aTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: General$2imf 607 $aUnited States$2imf 615 0$aCapital market. 615 0$aDigital divide. 615 7$aDemographic Economics: General 615 7$aDemography 615 7$aExports and Imports 615 7$aFinance 615 7$aFinance: General 615 7$aFinancial Markets and the Macroeconomy 615 7$aFinancial sector development 615 7$aFinancial services industry 615 7$aForeign direct investment 615 7$aGeneral Financial Markets: General (includes Measurement and Data) 615 7$aInformation technology in revenue administration 615 7$aInternational Investment 615 7$aInvestments, Foreign 615 7$aLong-term Capital Movements 615 7$aPopulation & demography 615 7$aPopulation and demographics 615 7$aPopulation 615 7$aPublic finance & taxation 615 7$aPublic Finance 615 7$aRevenue 615 7$aStock exchanges 615 7$aStock markets 615 7$aTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: General 700 $aYartey$b Charles Amo$01804327 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910959022803321 996 $aFinancial Development, the Structure of Capital Markets, and the Global Digital Divide$94372920 997 $aUNINA
