The empirical results suggest however that political instability has a negative effect on non-oil growth, and that the presence of oil could have fueled political instability by being associated with weakening institutions. The results also show that fiscal discipline is beneficial for growth. In addition, there are strong linkages between world oil prices and the real effective exchange rate, with movements in the latter having important indirect repercussions for growth. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/185 606 $aPetroleum$zDemocratic Republic of the Congo 606 $aOil industries$zDemocratic Republic of the Congo 606 $aAgricultural and Natural Resource Economics$2imf 606 $aCurrency$2imf 606 $aEnergy: Demand and Supply$2imf 606 $aEnergy: General$2imf 606 $aEnvironmental and Ecological Economics: General$2imf 606 $aEnvironmental management$2imf 606 $aForeign Exchange$2imf 606 $aForeign exchange$2imf 606 $aIndustries: Energy$2imf 606 $aInvestment & securities$2imf 606 $aInvestments: Energy$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aNatural Resources$2imf 606 $aNatural resources$2imf 606 $aNonrenewable Resources and Conservation: General$2imf 606 $aOil prices$2imf 606 $aOil sector$2imf 606 $aOil$2imf 606 $aPetroleum industry and trade$2imf 606 $aPetroleum, oil & gas industries$2imf 606 $aPrices$2imf 606 $aReal effective exchange rates$2imf 607 $aCongo, Democratic Republic of the$2imf 615 0$aPetroleum 615 0$aOil industries 615 7$aAgricultural and Natural Resource Economics 615 7$aCurrency 615 7$aEnergy: Demand and Supply 615 7$aEnergy: General 615 7$aEnvironmental and Ecological Economics: General 615 7$aEnvironmental management 615 7$aForeign Exchange 615 7$aForeign exchange 615 7$aIndustries: Energy 615 7$aInvestment & securities 615 7$aInvestments: Energy 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aNatural Resources 615 7$aNatural resources 615 7$aNonrenewable Resources and Conservation: General 615 7$aOil prices 615 7$aOil sector 615 7$aOil 615 7$aPetroleum industry and trade 615 7$aPetroleum, oil & gas industries 615 7$aPrices 615 7$aReal effective exchange rates 700 $aGhura$b Dhaneshwar$01815935 701 $aBhattacharya$b Rina$01816058 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910959022503321 996 $aOil and Growth in the Republic of Congo$94371695 997 $aUNINA
