Although pronunciamientos rarely achieved the goals for which they were undertaken and sometimes resulted in armed rebellion, they were nonetheless both celebrated and commemorated, and the perceptions and representations of pronunciamientos themselves reflected the Mexican people's response to these "revolutions." The third in a series of books examining the pronunciamiento, this collection addresses the complicated legacy of pronunciamientos and their place in Mexican political culture. The essays explore the sacralization and legitimization of these revolts and of their leaders in the nation's history and consider why these celebrations proved ultimately ineffective in consecrating the pronunciamiento as a force for good, rather than one motivated by desires for power, promotion, and plunder. Celebrating Insurrection offers readers interpretations of acts of celebration and commemoration that explain the uneasy adoption of pronunciamientos as Mexico's preferred means of effecting political change during this turbulent period in the nation's history. 410 0$aMexican experience. 606 $aRevolutions$zMexico$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aPolitical violence$zMexico$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aPolitical culture$zMexico$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aGovernment, Resistance to$zMexico$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aLegitimacy of governments$zMexico$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aCollective memory$zMexico 607 $aMexico$xHistory$y19th century 615 0$aRevolutions$xHistory 615 0$aPolitical violence$xHistory 615 0$aPolitical culture$xHistory 615 0$aGovernment, Resistance to$xHistory 615 0$aLegitimacy of governments$xHistory 615 0$aCollective memory 676 $a972/.04 701 $aFowler$b Will$f1966-$01617577 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910958825603321 996 $aCelebrating insurrection$94362512 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05049nam 2201105Ia 450 001 9911019598403321 005 20241009125507.0 010 $a9786612117374 010 $a9781282117372 010 $a1282117378 010 $a9781444311099 010 $a1444311093 010 $a9781444311082 010 $a1444311085 035 $a(CKB)1000000000719870 035 $a(EBL)428194 035 $a(OCoLC)476272958 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001401918 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12473963 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001401918 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11357264 035 $a(PQKB)10890275 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000354179 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11259033 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000354179 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10302436 035 $a(PQKB)11361098 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC428194 035 $a(Perlego)2777808 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000719870 100 $a20090113d2009 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 04$aThe ethics of cultural appropriation /$fedited by James O.
