The symposium gives early career engineers working in academia, industry, and government in many different engineering disciplines an opportunity to make contacts with and learn from individuals they would not meet in the usual round of professional meetings. This networking may lead to collaborative work and facilitate the transfer of new techniques and approaches. It is hoped that the exchange of information on current developments in many fields of engineering will lead to insights that may be applicable in specific disciplines and thereby build U.S. innovative capacity. Different topics are covered each year, and, with a few exceptions, different individuals participate. The four general topics covered at the 2008 meeting were: drug delivery systems, emerging nanoelectronic devices, cognitive engineering, and countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The intent of this book is to convey the excitement of this unique meeting and to highlight cutting-edge developments in engineering research and technical work. 606 $aSystems engineering$vCongresses 606 $aEngineering$xTechnological innovations$vCongresses 606 $aEngineering$xResearch$vCongresses 606 $aFuel$xBiotechnology$vCongresses 606 $aProteins$xConformation$vCongresses 606 $aWater$xPurification$vCongresses 606 $aHuman behavior$xComputer simulation$vCongresses 615 0$aSystems engineering 615 0$aEngineering$xTechnological innovations 615 0$aEngineering$xResearch 615 0$aFuel$xBiotechnology 615 0$aProteins$xConformation 615 0$aWater$xPurification 615 0$aHuman behavior$xComputer simulation 676 $a620.007 712 02$aNational Academies Press (U.S.) 712 12$aSymposium on Frontiers of Engineering. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910958781403321 996 $aFrontiers of engineering$93923632 997 $aUNINA
