Based on the insights gained from original interviews with over 100 participants and sustained documentary research, it offers new perspectives and challenges long-held orthodoxies regarding the place of literature in the Cuban Revolution. By departing from the conventional focus on individual texts and authors to instead examine the actors, processes and spaces (writing, regulation, publishing, promotion and reading) through which literature has operated inside Cuba since 1959, and thus situates literary culture within the broader revolutionary context of nation-building. It traces the development of literary culture from the first days of the Revolution through to the economic crisis of the 1990s, revealing the debates and tensions but also the continuity of vision which has underlined the production and circulation of literature on the island. Combining historical and theoretical approaches with more detailed case studies, it explores Cuban literary culture through a conceptual framework which identifies the unique and complex patterns of policy and practice within the Revolution and applies them to three particular contemporary phenomena writing workshops, the Havana Book Festival, and the publishing infrastructure which demonstrate the continuing centrality of literary culture within the Cuban Revolution. The book is of interest to students and researchers working within Latin American Studies, those studying Cuba or other revolutionary contexts in Latin America, as well as those working in Cultural Studies, and lay readers with an interest in the Cuban Revolu 606 $aPolitics and culture$zCuba$xHistory$y20th cen 606 $aCuban literature$xHistory and criticism$y20th cen 607 $aCuba$xCultural po 607 $aCuba$xIntellectual life$y20th cen 610 $aCuban Revolution. 610 $aCuban culture. 610 $aHavana Book Festival. 610 $aliterary culture. 610 $apublishing. 610 $awriting workshops. 615 $aPolitics and culture$xHistory 615 $aCuban literature$xHistory and criticism 676 $a972.9106 700 $aKumaraswami$b Par$01030278 702 $aNehru$b Meesha 702 $aKapcia$b Antoni 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910796415703321 996 $aLiterary culture in Cuba$93727930 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01275oam 2200409zu 450 001 9910872799403321 005 20241212214848.0 035 $a(CKB)111026746719428 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000455110 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12175371 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000455110 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10399600 035 $a(PQKB)10690288 035 $a(NjHacI)99111026746719428 035 $a(EXLCZ)99111026746719428 100 $a20160829d1997 uy 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$a1997 14th Annual IEEE/AES Dayton Chapter Symposium Synthetic Visualization: Systems and Applications" 210 31$a[Place of publication not identified]$cI E E E$d1997 215 $a1 online resource 300 $aBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph 311 08$a9780780339651 311 08$a0780339657 606 $aVirtual reality$vCongresses 615 0$aVirtual reality 676 $a629.135 712 02$aIEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society.$bDayton Chapter. 712 02$aIEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society. 801 0$bPQKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910872799403321 996 $a1997 14th Annual IEEE$92545466 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03307nam 2200709Ia 450 001 9910958529703321 005 20260326234356.0 010 $a1-78190-745-5 035 $a(CKB)3710000000092633 035 $a(EBL)1649387 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001209612 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11818842 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001209612 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11175342 035 $a(PQKB)10890188 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1649387 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1649387 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10845718 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL580302 035 $a(OCoLC)871257107 035 $a(UtOrBLW)bslw09197871 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000092633 100 $a20140303d2014 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurun||||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aAdvances in library administration and organization$hVol. 32 /$fedited by Delmus E.
