This conference was part of the annual series of the Clifton Batchelder Conference for Biblical Archaeology and the Bethsaida Excavations Project. The conference was structured so that text scholars and material-culture scholars were able to interact and influence one another. This interdisciplinary approach created a unique, productive atmosphere where scholars who come from different disciplines were able to share and exchange ideas in ways that seldom happen in our increasingly specialized academic world. Thus, scholars from three major disciplines?Greek philosophy, biblical studies, and archaeology?produced lectures and papers on urbanism in the ancient world that reflect multihued perspectives that draw on the specialties of each contributor.Few conferences on urbanism engage in an interdisciplinary approach, and few deal with the questions raised in this book; even fewer are published and see the light of day. In this volume, we are pleased to be able to share a fine collection of essays from the conference with the larger community of people interested in the ancient world. 606 $aRELIGION$xBiblical Reference$xHandbooks 606 $aRELIGION$xBiblical Reference$xGeneral 606 $aBIBLES$xGeneral 607 $aMiddle East$xAntiquities 615 0$aRELIGION$xBiblical Reference$xHandbooks. 615 0$aRELIGION$xBiblical Reference$xGeneral. 615 0$aBIBLES$xGeneral. 676 $a220.8/30776 700 $aArav$b Rami$0487970 701 $aArav$b Rami$0487970 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910781312303321 996 $aCities Through the Looking Glass$93672422 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02983nam 2200625 a 450 001 9910786121403321 005 20230803025653.0 010 $a0-8047-8674-7 024 7 $a10.1515/9780804786744 035 $a(CKB)2670000000340166 035 $a(EBL)1155234 035 $a(OCoLC)831116705 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000854387 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12381050 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000854387 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10903128 035 $a(PQKB)10013241 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1155234 035 $a(DE-B1597)563878 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780804786744 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1155234 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10676845 035 $a(OCoLC)1198931611 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000340166 100 $a20121012d2013 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 14$aThe highest poverty$b[electronic resource] $emonastic rules and form-of-life /$fGiorgio Agamben ; translated by Adam Kotsko 210 $aStanford, Calif. $cStanford University Press$d2013 215 $a1 online resource (179 p.) 225 1 $aMeridian, crossing aesthetics 300 $a"Originally published in Italian under the title Altissima poverta? : Regole monastiche e forma di vita"--t.p. verso. 311 $a0-8047-8405-1 311 $a0-8047-8406-X 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 327 $aContents; Translator's Note; Preface; I. And what is a human life, if, in every one of its gestures, of its words, and of its silences, it cannot be distinguished from the rule?It is to these questions that Agamben's new book turns by means of an impassioned reading of the fascinating and massive phenomenon of Western monasticism from Pachomius to St. Francis. The book reconstructs in detail the life of the monks with their obsessive attention to temporal articulation and to the Rule, to ascetic techniques and to liturgy. Thinking in Linear Algebra -- Presentation of Other Research Works. 330 $aTo a large extent, it lies, no doubt, in what is presented in this work under the title of ?meta lever?, a method which it is certainly interesting to develop and further refine. There exists in mathematics courses a strange prudery which forbids one to ask questions such as, ?? Why are we doing this? », ?? At what is the objective aimed? », whereas it is usually easy to reply to such questions, to keep them in mind, and to show that one can challenge these questions and modify the objectives to be more productive or more useful. If we don?t do this we give a false impression of a gratuitous or arbitrary interpretation of a discipline whose rules are far from being unmotivated or unfounded. One must also consider the time aspect. Simple ideas take a long time to be conceived. Should we not therefore allow the students time to familiarize themselves with new notions? And must we not also recognize that this length of time is generally longer than that of the official length of time accorded to this teaching and that we should be counting in years? When the rudiments of linear algebra were taught at the level of the lycée (college level), the task of first year university teachers was certainly easier : for sure the student's knowledge was not very deep, however it was not negligible and it allowed them to reach a deeper understanding more quickly. 410 0$aMathematics education library ;$vv. 23. 606 $aAlgebras, Linear$xStudy and teaching 615 0$aAlgebras, Linear$xStudy and teaching. 676 $a512/.5 701 $aDorier$b Jean-Luc$01144026 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910957859703321 996 $aOn the teaching of linear algebra$94392137 997 $aUNINA
