This volume evaluates how the Target Cities project affected both treatment systems and individuals with drug and alcohol problems. In each city, programs were established to evaluate the impact of these substances on an individual's mental and physical health, housing, family relationships, and involvement with the criminal justice system. A brief summary of the evolution of national perceptions of drug and alcohol problems is followed by a description of the project, its participants, the process of entering treatment, an organizational analysis of the project's many components, participant satisfaction and adjustment, and the implications of the research findings for policy makers and treatment personnel. 606 $aDrug abuse$zUnited States 606 $aDrug abuse$xTreatment$zUnited States 606 $aAlcoholism$zUnited States 606 $aAlcoholism$xTreatment$zUnited States 615 0$aDrug abuse 615 0$aDrug abuse$xTreatment 615 0$aAlcoholism 615 0$aAlcoholism$xTreatment 676 $a362.29/186/0973 701 $aStephens$b Richard C$01814837 701 $aScott$b Christy K$01814838 701 $aMuck$b Randolph D$01814839 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910957497003321 996 $aClinical assessment and substance abuse treatment$94368975 997 $aUNINA
