It explores this issue in the context of strategic behavior by countries, taking into account other global and domestic political economy factors. Tax rates are analyzed using a unique tax dataset for advanced and developing economies extending over five decades. We report a number of novel results: there is no general negative relationship between financial globalization and corporate tax rates and revenues?results vary according to country grouping with OECD countries showing a positive relationship; the United States exhibits a ?Stackelberg? type of leadership on other countries; trade integration is inversely correlated with tax rates; and public sentiment and ideology affect tax rates. The policy implications of these findings, particularly given budgetary pressures in the aftermath of the global crisis, are noted. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2012/252 606 $aCorporations$xTaxation 606 $aGlobalization 606 $aBusiness Taxes and Subsidies$2imf 606 $aCorporate & business tax$2imf 606 $aCorporate income tax$2imf 606 $aCorporate Taxation$2imf 606 $aCorporate taxes$2imf 606 $aCorporations$2imf 606 $aGlobalization$2imf 606 $aGlobalization: General$2imf 606 $aIncome tax$2imf 606 $aInternational Relations and International Political Economy: Other$2imf 606 $aOpen Economy Macroeconomics$2imf 606 $aPersonal Finance -Taxation$2imf 606 $aPersonal Income and Other Nonbusiness Taxes and Subsidies$2imf 606 $aPersonal income tax$2imf 606 $aPublic finance & taxation$2imf 606 $aPublic Finance$2imf 606 $aRevenue administration$2imf 606 $aRevenue$2imf 606 $aTaxation$2imf 606 $aTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: General$2imf 606 $aTaxes$2imf 607 $aUnited States$2imf 615 0$aCorporations$xTaxation. 615 0$aGlobalization. 615 7$aBusiness Taxes and Subsidies 615 7$aCorporate & business tax 615 7$aCorporate income tax 615 7$aCorporate Taxation 615 7$aCorporate taxes 615 7$aCorporations 615 7$aGlobalization 615 7$aGlobalization: General 615 7$aIncome tax 615 7$aInternational Relations and International Political Economy: Other 615 7$aOpen Economy Macroeconomics 615 7$aPersonal Finance -Taxation 615 7$aPersonal Income and Other Nonbusiness Taxes and Subsidies 615 7$aPersonal income tax 615 7$aPublic finance & taxation 615 7$aPublic Finance 615 7$aRevenue administration 615 7$aRevenue 615 7$aTaxation 615 7$aTaxation, Subsidies, and Revenue: General 615 7$aTaxes 676 $a332.1;332.152 700 $aKumar$b Manmohan$01803826 701 $aQuinn$b Dennis$01815589 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bFiscal Affairs Department. 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bFinance Department. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910956813203321 996 $aGlobalization and Corporate Taxation$94371057 997 $aUNINA
