330 $aThis ambitious examination of all the proper names in the Chanson de Roland shows that it is finely structured even up to the smallest scenes, and substantially worldlier than has been generally assumed. This makes it possible to retrace the outlines of the Chanson?s long prehistory, though with diminishing certainty, as far back as the Frankish defeat of 778. 410 0$aBeihefte zur Zeitschrift fu?r romanische Philologie ;$v411. 606 $aEpic poetry, French$xHistory and criticism 606 $aNames in literature 606 $aLANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES / Linguistics / General$2bisacsh 610 $aChanson de Roland. 610 $aEpic Poem. 610 $aMedieval French Literature. 610 $aOnomastics. 615 0$aEpic poetry, French$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aNames in literature. 615 7$aLANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES / Linguistics / General. 676 $a841.1 686 $aIE 6045$2rvk 700 $aBeckmann$b Gustav Adolf$0199873 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910792538903321 996 $aOnomastik des Rolandsliedes$93673303 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05563oam 22008414a 450 001 9910954422703321 005 20170919190428.0 010 $a9780252098543 010 $a0252098544 035 $a(CKB)3710000000678940 035 $a(EBL)4443541 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001674253 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)16473512 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001674253 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)15013380 035 $a(PQKB)10971570 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)16477458 035 $a(PQKB)21060860 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC4443541 035 $a(StDuBDS)EDZ0001642077 035 $a(OCoLC)929331901 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse52032 035 $a(Perlego)2598686 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000678940 100 $a20151106d2016 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aGame Faces $eSport Celebrity and the Laws of Reputation /$fSarah K. Their celebrity status depends upon widespread publicity, which invites public scrutiny and a host of hangers-on eager to tap into a celebrity's income, and which brings their individual rights into conflict with the First Amendment rights of the Press. In a series of legal decisions, celebrity athletes have been catalysts for change in defining the limits of privacy, defamation, publicity, and property rights. Professor Fields looks at six court cases involving prominent sports celebrities: Coach Wally Butts, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame; pitcher Warren Spahn, a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame; quarterback Joe Montana, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame; African American Don Newcombe, the only major league baseball player to have won the rookie of the year, most valuable player, and Cy Young awards; golf pro Tiger Woods; and hockey player Tony Twist, a league leader in penalty minutes. The cases are not fascinating because of the athletes, but also because of the stories they tell, involving lies, libel, invasion of privacy, and the commercial use of names and images. In addition, because celebrity athletes were involved, the legal cases themselves were celebrity events"--$cProvided by publisher. 330 $a"Sports figures cope with a level of celebrity once reserved for the stars of stage and screen. In Game Faces , Sarah K. Fields looks at the legal ramifications of the cases brought by six of them--golfer Tiger Woods, quarterback Joe Montana, college football coach Wally Butts, baseball pitchers Warren Spahn and Don Newcombe, and hockey enforcer Tony Twist--when faced with what they considered attacks on their privacy and image. Placing each case in its historical and legal context, Fields examines how sports figures in the U.S. have used the law to regain control of their image. As she shows, decisions in the cases significantly affected the evolution of laws related to privacy, defamation, and publicity--areas pertinent to the lives of the famous sports figure and the non-famous consumer alike. She also tells the stories of why the plaintiffs sought relief in the courts, uncovering motives that delved into the heart of issues separating individual rights from the public's perceived right to know. A fascinating exploration of a still-evolving phenomenon, Game Faces is an essential look at the legal playing fields that influence our enjoyment of sports"--$cProvided by publisher. 410 0$aSport and society. 606 $aLAW / Defamation$2bisacsh 606 $aLAW / Sports$2bisacsh 606 $aLAW / Media & the Law$2bisacsh 606 $aHeroes in mass media 606 $aFreedom of the press$zUnited States$vCases 606 $aPhotographs$xLaw and legislation$zUnited States$vCases 606 $aPublicity (Law)$zUnited States$vCases 606 $aCelebrities$xLegal status, laws, etc$zUnited States$vCases 606 $aPrivacy, Right of$zUnited States$vCases 608 $aElectronic books. 615 7$aLAW / Defamation. 615 7$aLAW / Sports. 615 7$aLAW / Media & the Law. 615 0$aHeroes in mass media. 615 0$aFreedom of the press 615 0$aPhotographs$xLaw and legislation 615 0$aPublicity (Law) 615 0$aCelebrities$xLegal status, laws, etc. 615 0$aPrivacy, Right of 676 $a342.7308/58 686 $aLAW096000$aLAW084000$aLAW106000$2bisacsh 700 $aFields$b Sarah K.$f1968-$01727975 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910954422703321 996 $aGame Faces$94361447 997 $aUNINA
