"The past is never dead. It's not even past." - William Faulkner The three thought-provoking essays in Memory Matters explore how the process of memorialization keeps the past alive in the present and shape the way we imagine our possible futures. The product of a one-day symposium hosted by the Humanities Center at Miami University of Ohio, it focuses on issues of commemoration in the contexts of U.S. history, Native America, and museums. In "From Lexington and Concord to Oklahoma City: The Perils and Promise of Public History, " Edward T. Linenthal offers a fresh perspective on creating national memorials. In "The Remembered/Forgotten on Native Ground, " Daniel M. Cobb draws upon Benedict Anderson's notion of the "remembered/forgotten" to explore the work of memory at the sites of the Battle of the Little Bighorn, the Wounded Knee Massacre, and the Miami Removal. And in "Museums Matter, " Helen Sheumaker explores how museums function as repositories and creators of cultural memory. The volume also includes a transcript based on the question-and-answer session following the original presentations. Stemming from a two-year scholarly project, "Memory and Culture: Engaged Scholarship, Multidisciplinary Connections, and the Public Humanities, " Memory Matters provides scholars and those interested in such fields as museum studies, memorial studies, and cultural history with provocative discussions of the ways in which representation, power, and memory intersect. 606 $aMemory$xSocial aspects$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aCollective memory$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aMemorials$xSocial aspects$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aPublic history$zUnited States$vCongresses 606 $aIndians of North America$xHistory$vCongresses 606 $aMuseums$xSocial aspects$zUnited States$vCongresses 607 $aUnited States$xHistory$xPhilosophy$vCongresses 607 $aUnited States$xHistoriography$vCongresses 615 0$aMemory$xSocial aspects 615 0$aCollective memory 615 0$aMemorials$xSocial aspects 615 0$aPublic history 615 0$aIndians of North America$xHistory 615 0$aMuseums$xSocial aspects 676 $a973 701 $aCobb$b Daniel M$01807066 701 $aSheumaker$b Helen$01807067 712 02$aMiami University (Oxford, Ohio).$bHumanities Center. 712 12$aMemory Matters (Symposium) 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910954028903321 996 $aMemory matters$94356584 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01389nam1 22003373i 450 001 MIL0492564 005 20251003044234.0 100 $a20010309d2000 ||||0itac50 ba 101 | $aita 102 $ait 181 1$6z01$ai $bxxxe 182 1$6z01$an 200 1 $aˆIl ‰mercato dei servizi di ingegneria 210 $aRoma$cCentro studi Consiglio nazionale ingegneri 215 $a v.$d24 cm. 463 1$1001UFI0357201$12001 $aˆ2: ‰Indagine sugli ingegneri che svolgono attivita professionale$fredatto dal dott.
