Without an accurate definition, compounds can be designed or isolated and concentrated using the currently available methods, without necessarily providing beneficial health effects. Other compounds can be developed that are nondigestible and provide beneficial health effects, yet do not meet the current U.S. definition based on analytical methods. For the above reasons, the Food and Nutrition Board, under the oversight of the Standing Committee on the Scientific Evaluation of Dietary Reference Intakes, assembled a Panel on the Definition of Dietary Fiber to develop a proposed definition(s) of dietary fiber. This Panel held three meetings and a workshop. 410 0$aCompass series (Washington, D.C.) 517 3 $aProposed definition of dietary fiber 517 3 $aDRI :$edietary reference intakes, proposed definition of dietary fiber 517 3 $aReport of the Panel on the Definition of Dietary Fiber and the Standing Committee on the Scientific Evaluation of Dietary Reference Intakes 606 $aFiber in human nutrition 606 $aFood$xComposition 606 $aReference values (Medicine) 615 0$aFiber in human nutrition. 615 0$aFood$xComposition. 615 0$aReference values (Medicine) 676 $a613.2/8 712 02$aInstitute of Medicine (U.S.).$bStanding Committee on the Scientific Evaluation of Dietary Reference Intakes. 712 02$aInstitute of Medicine (U.S.).$bPanel on the Definition of Dietary Fiber. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910953551603321 996 $aDietary reference intakes$94355133 997 $aUNINA
