Her focus here is the advent of hybrid mythography, the transformation of mythological commentary by blending the scholarly with the courtly and the personal. Chance's in-depth examination of works by the major writers of the period demonstrates how they essentially co-opted a thousand-year tradition. Their intricate narratives of identity mixed commentary with poetry, reinterpreted classical gods and heroes to suit personal agendas, and gave rise to innovative techniques such as "inglossation"--the use of a mythological figure to comment on the protagonist within an autobiographical allegory. In this manner, through allegorical authorial projection of the self, the poets explored a subjective world and manifested a burgeoning humanism that would eventually come to full fruition in the Renaissance. No other work examines the mythographic interrelationships among these poets and their unique and personal approaches to mythological commentary. 606 $aCivilization, Medieval$xClassical influences 606 $aCriticism, Medieval$xHistory 606 $aLatin literature$xCriticism and interpretation$xHistory 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aCivilization, Medieval$xClassical influences. 615 0$aCriticism, Medieval$xHistory. 615 0$aLatin literature$xCriticism and interpretation$xHistory. 676 $a938 700 $aChance$b Jane$0188272 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910463781803321 996 $aThe emergence of Italian humanism, 1321-1475$92019022 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01921oas 22006493 450 001 9910901766503321 005 20260129213014.0 011 $a2690-8190 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB0198-9405;2690-8182;2381-8700;2690-8190 035 $a(OCoLC)1144176902 035 $a(CONSER) 2020200429 035 $a(CKB)4100000012902901 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000012902901 100 $a20200312a20229999 uy a 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aMedieval people 210 1$aKalamazoo :$cMedieval Institute Publications at Western Michigan University,$d2022- 300 $aRefereed/Peer-reviewed 300 $a"Social bonds, kinship and networks" 311 08$a2690-8182 606 $aBiography$yMiddle Ages, 500-1500$vPeriodicals 606 $aProsopography$vPeriodicals 606 $aMiddle Ages$vPeriodicals 606 $aBiographies$y500-1500 (Moyen A?ge)$vPe?riodiques 606 $aProsopographie$vPe?riodiques 606 $aMoyen A?ge$vPe?riodiques 606 $aBiography$xMiddle Ages$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01710935 606 $aMiddle Ages$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01020301 606 $aProsopography$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01079405 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 615 0$aBiography 615 0$aProsopography 615 0$aMiddle Ages 615 6$aBiographies 615 6$aProsopographie 615 6$aMoyen A?ge 615 7$aBiography$xMiddle Ages. 615 7$aMiddle Ages. 615 7$aProsopography. 676 $a909 712 02$aWestern Michigan University.$bMedieval Institute, 801 0$bDLC 801 1$bDLC 801 2$bDLC 801 2$bOCLCF 801 2$bTEF 801 2$bUEJ 801 2$bOCLCL 801 2$bU3W 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910901766503321 996 $aMedieval people$94274202 997 $aUNINA
