Over the past two decades, the countries in the region have experienced as many as 1 350 natural disasters attributable to the climate, affecting more than 170 million people. We analysed climate risks in Latin America and the Caribbean, expanding the analysis to understand what these risks imply for the financial sector, particularly for banks. We conclude that the aggregate physical climate risk of the banking sector is the highest in the Caribbean while for transition risk the picture is more homogenous. Finally, we note that capital flows for climate projects in the Latin America and the Caribbean region have been lagging other regions in the world. Against the backdrop of considerable financing needs, the international financial community and public development banks have an important role to play to support both public and private green investments providing long-term, patient funding at affordable rates and sharing part of the risks. 517 $aClimate risks for Latin America and the Caribbean 606 $anatural hazard$9eng$2EUROVOC 606 $arisk management$9eng$2EUROVOC 606 $agreen economy$9eng$2EUROVOC 606 $aeconomic transition$9eng$2EUROVOC 606 $aenergy transition$9eng$2EUROVOC 606 $abanking policy$9eng$2EUROVOC 606 $aEU financing$9eng$2EUROVOC 606 $afinancial institution$9eng$2EUROVOC 606 $aclimate change$9eng$2EUROVOC 606 $aLatin America$9eng$2EUROVOC 606 $aCaribbean Islands$9eng$2EUROVOC 615 7$anatural hazard. 615 7$arisk management. 615 7$agreen economy. 615 7$aeconomic transition. 615 7$aenergy transition. 615 7$abanking policy. 615 7$aEU financing. 615 7$afinancial institution. 615 7$aclimate change. 615 7$aLatin America. 615 7$aCaribbean Islands. 686 $aNatural disasters$2LU-LuOPE 686 $aEconomy - Finance$2LU-LuOPE 700 $aEuropean Investment Bank$01725572 712 02$aEuropean Investment Bank. 801 0$bLU-LuOPE 906 $aREPORT 912 $a9910888479203321 996 $aClimate risks in Latin America and the Caribbean$94266400 997 $aUNINA 999 $9European Commission
