Covering themes such as security and defence, foreign aid, and European integration, the author argues that despite often presenting itself as an idealist country and a ?peace nation?, Norwegian governments have demonstrated an understanding of power politics and a desire to, above all, promote national self- interests. The author explores the country?s global relations with the US and NATO, the countries of the European Union, and great powers such as Russia and China. By adopting a historical perspective, the book demonstrates how continuity and stability have been fundamental features of contemporary Norwegian foreign policy. The book draws on a wide range of current and archival government sources, parliamentary debates, and opinion pieces in news outlets, as well as an extensive selection of academic sources. Geir K. Almlid is Associate Professor at Nord University, Norway. Having previously studied international studies at the University of East Anglia, Geir has published in the areas of history and political science. His book Britain and Norway in Europe Since 1945 was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2020. 606 $aInternational relations$xHistory 606 $aEurope$xHistory 606 $aHistory, Modern 606 $aInternational relations 606 $aWorld politics 606 $aDiplomatic and International History 606 $aEuropean History 606 $aModern History 606 $aInternational Relations 606 $aForeign Policy 606 $aPolitical History 615 0$aInternational relations$xHistory. 615 0$aEurope$xHistory. 615 0$aHistory, Modern. 615 0$aInternational relations. 615 0$aWorld politics. 615 14$aDiplomatic and International History. 615 24$aEuropean History. 615 24$aModern History. 615 24$aInternational Relations. 615 24$aForeign Policy. 615 24$aPolitical History. 676 $a327.481 676 $a940 700 $aAlmlid$b Geir K$0995909 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910886065303321 996 $aNorway?s Foreign Policy in the Twentieth and Twenty-first Centuries$94247170 997 $aUNINA
