Inspired by a passion for biblical as well as constitutional scholarship, in this bold exploration Yale Law Professor Robert A. Burt conceptualizes the political theory of the Hebrew and Christian Bibles. God's authority as expressed in these accounts is not a given. It is no less inherently problematic and in need of justification than the legitimacy of secular government. In recounting the rich narratives of key biblical figures-from Adam and Eve to Noah, Cain, Abraham, Moses, Job, and Jesus-In the Whirlwind paints a surprising picture of the ambivalent, mutually dependent relationship between God and his peoples. Taking the Hebrew and Christian Bibles as a unified whole, Burt traces God's relationship with humanity as it evolves from complete harmony at the outset to continual struggle. In almost every case, God insists on unconditional obedience, while humanity withholds submission and holds God accountable for his promises.Contemporary political theory aims for perfect justice. The Bible, Burt shows, does not make this assumption. Justice in the biblical account is an imperfect process grounded in human-and divine-limitation. Burt suggests that we consider the lessons of this tension as we try to negotiate the power struggles within secular governments, and also the conflicts roiling our public and private lives. 606 $aGod$xGoodness 606 $aGod$xOmnipotence 606 $aGod$xRighteousness 615 0$aGod$xGoodness. 615 0$aGod$xOmnipotence. 615 0$aGod$xRighteousness. 676 $a296.3 700 $aBurt$b Robert$f1939-$0748373 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910963727003321 996 $aIn the whirlwind$94352003 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03779oam 2200817 c 450 001 9910878800603321 005 20251102090541.0 010 $a3-8309-9873-2 024 3 $a9783830998730 035 $a(CKB)5590000001323833 035 $a(Waxmann)9783830998730 035 $a(EXLCZ)995590000001323833 100 $a20251102d2024 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurnnunnnannuu 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aGeneral Subject Didactics $eComparative Insights into Subject Didactics as Academic Disciplines. This concept is based on the existence of several academic disciplines called subject(-matter) didactics or disciplinary didactics (as in many parts of Europe) or subject pedagogies (as in Japan, for example), which have content-based teaching and learning in school and beyond as their object of study. General Subject Didactics can be defined as the theory of subject didactics. It observes and reflects on how the individual subject didactics explore subject-specific teaching and learning, both by top-down reflections and by bottom-up comparisons. The empirical basis derives from a comprehensive study in Germany where 17 subject didactics were compared on the basis of six impulses, e. g. reference sciences of subject didactics, sources and selection of subject content or research formats applied. This allows to gain insights into the commonalities of all related disciplines and to identify differences among them. Both are commented upon by four international experts, three from Europe and one from Israel. 606 $aGeneral Subject Didactics 606 $aFachdidaktik 606 $aSubject Didactics 606 $aTeacher Education 606 $apedagogical content knowledge 606 $aBildung 606 $ateacher training 606 $aSubject-Matter Education 606 $aDidactics 606 $aDidaktik 606 $aInternational Perspectives 606 $aInternational Didactics Comparison 606 $atheory of didactics 606 $aSchulpädagogik 606 $aAllgemeine Erziehungswissenschaft 615 4$aGeneral Subject Didactics 615 4$aFachdidaktik 615 4$aSubject Didactics 615 4$aTeacher Education 615 4$apedagogical content knowledge 615 4$aBildung 615 4$ateacher training 615 4$aSubject-Matter Education 615 4$aDidactics 615 4$aDidaktik 615 4$aInternational Perspectives 615 4$aInternational Didactics Comparison 615 4$atheory of didactics 615 4$aSchulpädagogik 615 4$aAllgemeine Erziehungswissenschaft 700 $aVollmer$b Helmut Johannes$4aut$01836348 701 $aAbraham$b Ulf$0221408 701 $aAlexander$b Hanan$01836349 701 $aDeng$b Zongyi$01836350 701 $aHudson$b Brian$01836351 701 $aKrogh$b Ellen$01836352 701 $aRiegel$b Ulrich$01836353 701 $aSchneuwly$b Bernard$01288896 701 $aVogt$b Karin$01830201 702 $aRothgangel$b Martin$4aut 801 0$bWaxmann 801 1$bWaxmann 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910878800603321 996 $aGeneral Subject Didactics$94414412 997 $aUNINA
