There are more than 300 species of native California grasses and they are found in almost every climate-from cool, wet forests to hot, dry deserts. Native grasses are also important to land restoration as they improve soil quality, increase water infiltration, and recycle nutrients. Their deep roots can tap soil water, which allows them to stay green year-round and to act as fire buffers around residences. Native grasses also provide vital habitat for many species of insects, birds, reptiles, and mammals. Despite their importance, grasslands remain one of the most under protected of California's vegetation types, and native grasslands have undergone the greatest percentage loss of any habitat type in the state. Grasses are also among the most difficult plants to identify. Organized alphabetically, Field Guide to Grasses of California covers common native and naturalized grasses and, to help identify them, also features over 180 color illustrations. 410 0$aCalifornia natural history guides ;$vNumber 110. 606 $aGrasses$zCalifornia$vIdentification 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aGrasses 676 $a584/.74 700 $aSmith$b James P$g(James Payne),$f1941-$01031356 702 $aSimpson$b Kathy 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910465143903321 996 $aField guide to grasses of California$92448689 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02194oam 2200517Ma 450 001 9910150341803321 005 20230810001253.0 010 $a1-315-45871-3 010 $a1-138-20863-9 010 $a1-315-45873-X 024 7 $a10.4324/9781315458731 035 $a(CKB)3710000000932799 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC4741228 035 $a970383661 035 $a(OCoLC)970383661 035 $a(OCoLC-P)970383661 035 $a(FlBoTFG)9781315458731 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000932799 100 $a20170126e20171979 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcn||||||||| 181 $2rdacontent 182 $2rdamedia 183 $2rdacarrier 200 10$aTheory of complementation in English syntax /$fJoan Bresnan 210 $aAbingdon, Oxon $cRoutledge$d2017 215 $a1 online resource (329 pages) $cillustrations 225 0 $aRoutledge Library Editions: Syntax ;$vVolume 4 300 $aOriginally published in 1979 by Garland Publishing, Inc. 311 $a1-138-20862-0 311 $a1-315-45872-1 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references. 327 $ach. 1. It is argued that the familiar transformational treatment of complementizers is inadequate, and that they must be specified in deep structure by means of a Phrase Structure rule.
