Older adults are more susceptible to complications such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) as a result of viral pneumonia. In addition, they often have multiple comorbidities and are commonly frail, which means their various organs and systems, such as the respiratory system, have reduced functional reserves. As such, older adults are less able to react to acute stressors. During the current Covid-19 pandemic, older adult patients' mortality is increased. Further, the infection and death rates of elderly people in nursing homes and health care institutions are high. Management of older adults with Covid is complicated. The reduced availability of beds may limit their access to ICU. Moreover, the prognosis may be poor, and airway management and ventilation strategies have to take into account various clinical and physiological characteristics specific to older patients. This book is addressed to all allied professionals involved in the management of older critically ill patients and presents information collected and practical lessons learned from the clinical daily management of this population during the pandemic. . 606 $aCritical care medicine 606 $aGeriatrics 606 $aEmergency medicine 606 $aRespiratory organs?Diseases 606 $aIntensive / Critical Care Medicine$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/H3100X 606 $aGeriatrics/Gerontology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/H33150 606 $aEmergency Medicine$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/H22000 606 $aPneumology/Respiratory System$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/H33134 606 $aCOVID-19$2thub 606 $aMalalts en estat crític$2thub 606 $aRespiració artificial$2thub 606 $aGeriatria$2thub 608 $aLlibres electrònics$2thub 615 0$aCritical care medicine. 615 0$aGeriatrics. 615 0$aEmergency medicine. 615 0$aRespiratory organs?Diseases. 615 14$aIntensive / Critical Care Medicine. 615 24$aGeriatrics/Gerontology. 615 24$aEmergency Medicine. 615 24$aPneumology/Respiratory System. 615 7$aCOVID-19 615 7$aMalalts en estat crític 615 7$aRespiració artificial 615 7$aGeriatria 676 $a614.592414 676 $a618.9762414 702 $aVargas$b Nicola$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aEsquinas$b Antonio M$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910863177603321 996 $aCovid-19 Airway Management and Ventilation Strategy for Critically Ill Older Patients$94167088 997 $aUNINA
