DIA is a modern experimental technique used to analyze and classify particulate materials based on their size, shape, and other morphological properties. This method employs a high-frame-rate camera to capture images of individual sand particles, which have been transported and separated using various techniques. DIA generates both particle size and shape information by analyzing thousands to millions of particles, providing a quantitative statistical description of grain size and shape distribution within the specimen. The manuscript also offers a comprehensive examination of 2D and 3D particle size and shape descriptors. It demonstrates that there is no correlation between size and shape parameters in many sands and that shape descriptors can be reduced to four independent parameters representing sand granulometry at different scales. Additionally, the use of DIA in exploring the depositional history of two complex calcareous sands is presented. The manuscript presents the properties of 30 representative sands, including size and shape parameters, and fits them to statistical distributions. The investigated soils encompass both natural and machine-sorted materials, particles with regular and irregular shapes, as well as siliceous and calcareous sands. Physical granulometry of sand particles is compared using 2D, 3D DIA, and micro-computed tomography (?CT). The work demonstrates that DIA offers significant advantages in terms of efficiency for 3D shape analysis while providing an adequate representation of particle sizes and shapes of most sands. Finally, the manuscript integrates classical geotechnical engineering with computer vision and artificial intelligence. Size and shape descriptors are utilized for sand classification through machine learning models. This work represents a crucial step toward the automatic machine classification of soils, potentially enabling on-site classification using smartphones equipped with high-resolution cameras. 410 0$aSpringer Series in Geomechanics and Geoengineering,$x1866-8763 606 $aEngineering geology 606 $aGeotechnical engineering 606 $aSoft condensed matter 606 $aSignal processing 606 $aGeoengineering 606 $aGeotechnical Engineering and Applied Earth Sciences 606 $aSoft and Granular Matter 606 $aDigital and Analog Signal Processing 615 0$aEngineering geology. 615 0$aGeotechnical engineering. 615 0$aSoft condensed matter. 615 0$aSignal processing. 615 14$aGeoengineering. 615 24$aGeotechnical Engineering and Applied Earth Sciences. 615 24$aSoft and Granular Matter. 615 24$aDigital and Analog Signal Processing. 676 $a624.15136 700 $aIskander$b Magued$01739463 701 $aLi$b Linzhu$01739464 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910861097703321 996 $aDynamic Image Analysis of Granular Materials$94163470 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03001nam 22006133 450 001 9911003675403321 005 20250730180536.0 010 $a0-429-58232-3 035 $a(CKB)4920000000809861 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC7244767 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL7244767 035 $a(BIP)067060337 035 $a(ODN)ODN0004748952 035 $a(EXLCZ)994920000000809861 100 $a20230515d2019 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aYouth and the Politics of the Present $eCoping with Complexity and Ambivalence 210 $d2019 210 1$aMilton :$cTaylor & Francis Group,$d2019. 210 4$dİ2019. 215 $a1 online resource (202 pages) 225 1 $aRoutledge Advances in Sociology Series 311 08$a0-429-58422-9 311 08$a0-367-72935-0 330 8 $aYouth and the Politics of the Present presents a range of topical sociological investigations into various aspects of the everyday practices of young adults in different European contexts. Indeed, this volume provides an original and provocative investigation of various current central issues surrounding the effects of globalization and the directions in which Western societies are steering their future.Containing a wide range of empirical and comparative examples from across Europe, this title highlights how young adults are trying to implement new forms of understanding, interpretation and action to cope with unprecedented situations; developing new forms of relationships, identifications and belonging while they experience new and unprecedented forms of inclusion and exclusion. Grounding this exploration is the suggestion that careful observations of the everyday practices of young adults can be an excellent vantage point to grasp how and in what direction the future of contemporary Western societies is heading.Offering an original and provocative investigation, Youth and the Politics of the Present will appeal to students and researchers interested in fields such as Youth Studies, Globalization Studies, Migration Studies, Gender Studies and Social Policy. 410 0$aRoutledge advances in sociology 517 $aYouth and the Politics of the Present 606 $aNonfiction$2OverDrive 606 $aSociology$2OverDrive 610 $aSocial Interaction 610 $aYouth 610 $aInternet 610 $aGlobalization 610 $aPsychology 610 $aPolitical Science 610 $aSocial Science 610 $aComputers 615 17$aNonfiction. 615 7$aSociology. 676 $a320.0835094 686 $aSOC000000$aSOC026000$2bisacsh 700 $aColombo$b Enzo$0471918 701 $aRebughini$b Paola$0144670 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9911003675403321 996 $aYouth and the Politics of the Present$94384923 997 $aUNINA
