For Muslims, having the ability to divorce in accordance with Islamic law is of paramount importance. However, Muslim experiences of divorce practice differ tremendously. The chapters in this volume discuss Islamic divorce from West Africa to Southeast Asia, and each story explores aspects of the everyday realities of disputing and divorcing Muslim couples face in the twenty-first century. The book?s cross-cultural and comparative look at Islamic divorce indicates that Muslim divorces are impacted by global religious discourses on Islamic authority, authenticity, and gender; by global patterns of and approaches to secularity; and by global economic inequalities and attendant patterns of urbanization and migration. Studying divorce as a mode of Islamic law in practice shows us that the Islamic legal tradition is flexible, malleable, and context-dependent. 410 0$aPolitics of Marriage and Gender: Global Issues in Local Contexts 606 $aDivorce (Islamic law) 606 $aDivorce$xReligious aspects$xIslam 606 $aHusband and wife (Islamic law) 606 $aMarriage$xReligious aspects$xIslam 606 $aSeparation (Islamic law) 606 $aRELIGION / General$2bisacsh 610 $aIslamic divorce, Islamic family dynamics, divorce law, Islamic law, law interpretation, Islamic marriage, South Asian law, world law, law in the Islamic states, Southeast Asian law, Muslim struggle, Muslim law, Muslim divorces, divorce practice, Islamic legal tradition, Marital disputes, Pakistani court, Pakistani courts, Egyptian judiciary system, Egyptian courts, South African courts, Egyptian law, Pakistani law, South African law. 615 0$aDivorce (Islamic law) 615 0$aDivorce$xReligious aspects$xIslam. 615 0$aHusband and wife (Islamic law) 615 0$aMarriage$xReligious aspects$xIslam. 615 0$aSeparation (Islamic law) 615 7$aRELIGION / General. 676 $a297.5/77 700 $aStiles$b Erin E$01728922 701 $aYakin$b Ayang Utriza$01728923 701 $aGiunchi$b Elisa$0511834 701 $aBernard-Maugiron$b Nathalie$01320323 701 $aEssop$b Fatima$01728924 701 $aIssaka-Toure$b Fulera$01728925 701 $aLandry$b Jean-Michel$01728926 701 $aSchulz$b Dorothea$01728927 701 $aDiallo$b Souleymane$01261437 701 $aSteenberg$b Rune$01728928 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910838306703321 996 $aIslamic Divorce in the Twenty-First Century$94138421 997 $aUNINA
