In the last decades of the 20th century, environmental health scientists began to shift their focus deep within the human body, and to the molecular level, in order to investigate gene-environment interactions. In Exposed Science, Sara Shostak analyzes the rise of gene-environment interaction in the environmental health sciences and examines its consequences for how we understand and seek to protect population health. Drawing on in-depth interviews and ethnographic observation, Shostak demonstrates that what we know - and what we don't know - about the vulnerabilities of our bodies to environmental hazards is profoundly shaped by environmental health scientists' efforts to address the structural vulnerabilities of their field. She then takes up the political effects of this research, both from the perspective of those who seek to establish genomic technologies as a new basis for environmental regulation, and from the perspective of environmental justice activists, who are concerned that that their efforts to redress the social, political, and economical inequalities that put people at risk of environmental exposure will be undermined by molecular explanations of environmental health and illness. Exposed Science thus offers critically important new ways of understanding and engaging with the emergence of gene-environment interaction as a focal concern of environmental health science, policy-making, and activism. 606 $aEnvironmental health$xPolitical aspects 606 $aHealth risk assessment 606 $aPollution$xEnvironmental aspects 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aEnvironmental health$xPolitical aspects. 615 0$aHealth risk assessment. 615 0$aPollution$xEnvironmental aspects. 676 $a613/.1 700 $aShostak$b Sara$01040337 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910462666803321 996 $aExposed science$92463102 997 $aUNINA LEADER 00971nam0-2200241 --450 001 9910837088903321 005 20240313163500.0 100 $a20240313d1976----kmuy0itay5050 ba 101 0 $aita 102 $aIT 105 $a 001yy 200 1 $aNote sull'unità e sulla differenza tra la sessualità animale e la sessualità umana e sulla relazione tra sessualità e aggressività$fVincenzo Oliveri Del Castillo 210 $a[s.l.]$cGiannini & figli$d1976 215 $a69 p.$d24 cm 300 $aEstratto dal Bollettino della Società dei Naturalisti in Napoli, vol. 84, 1975. 700 1$aOliveri del Castillo,$bVincenzo$0774891 801 0$aIT$bUNINA$gREICAT$2UNIMARC 901 $aLG 912 $a9910837088903321 952 $aDAM OPUSC. 18 (11)$b2024/1852$fFLFBC 959 $aFLFBC 996 $aNote sull'unità e sulla differenza tra la sessualità animale e la sessualità umana e sulla relazione tra sessualità e aggressività$94132453 997 $aUNINA
