Each of the case studies highlights the key corporate governance changes made and the positive impacts that resulted, as reported by the company. The companies represent various countries, sectors, types, and sizes. All of the companies featured are former IFC Advisory Services clients. Some are IFC Investment clients as well. IFC conducted an in-depth corporate governance assessment for each of these companies using IFC's Corporate Governance Methodology. The assessments resulted in specific recommendations on ways to improve each company's governance framework and identified implementation plans. The assessments were conducted at various points over the past few years. The time taken to implement changes and realize benefits varied. However, all companies reported that governance changes are continuous and the corresponding benefits manifest themselves in different forms over time. This report provides examples of companies in various stages of change - from recent changes (e.g., Medgulf) to ongoing, longer-term changes (e.g., Bank Audi). This report also includes testimony from three MENA private equity firms (all IFC investment clients). Collectively, these firms have worked with 72 investee companies (past and present funds). Selected based on their association with IFC and their willingness to share their insight and experiences, these firms offer a valuable window into the importance of corporate governance from an investor's perspective. The material in this report is based on feedback gathered through individual interviews with each organization featured, resulting in well-considered responses. The achievements highlighted are all the more notable given that the interviews and information gathering process took place in in late 2009 (first edition) and 2013 (for current edition), when the region was still under the stress of the crisis. 410 0$aOther papers 410 0$aWorld Bank e-Library. 517 $aCorporate Governance 606 $aAccountability 606 $aAccounting 606 $aAsset Management 606 $aAudits 606 $aBanking Sector 606 $aCapital 606 $aCollections 606 $aCorporate Governance 606 $aCorporate Governance and Corruption 606 $aCorporate Law 606 $aCorporate Social Responsibility 606 $aCredit 606 $aDebt 606 $aDeveloping Countries 606 $aEconomic Development 606 $aEmployment 606 $aEquity 606 $aFinance 606 $aFinancial Crisis 606 $aFinancial Institutions 606 $aFinancial Management 606 $aFinancial Services 606 $aFiscal Year 606 $aForeign Direct Investment 606 $aGood Governance 606 $aGrants 606 $aHuman Capital 606 $aInflation 606 $aInfrastructure 606 $aInsurance 606 $aInterest Rates 606 $aInternational Finance 606 $aJob Creation 606 $aLabor Costs 606 $aLand 606 $aLaw and Development 606 $aLoans 606 $aPrivate Sector Development 606 $aProductivity 606 $aProfitability 606 $aRegulators 606 $aReputation 606 $aRetirement 606 $aReturn On Equity 606 $aRisk 606 $aRisk Management 606 $aShareholder Protection 606 $aTechnical Assistance 606 $aTransparency 606 $aTransport 615 4$aAccountability 615 4$aAccounting 615 4$aAsset Management 615 4$aAudits 615 4$aBanking Sector 615 4$aCapital 615 4$aCollections 615 4$aCorporate Governance 615 4$aCorporate Governance and Corruption 615 4$aCorporate Law 615 4$aCorporate Social Responsibility 615 4$aCredit 615 4$aDebt 615 4$aDeveloping Countries 615 4$aEconomic Development 615 4$aEmployment 615 4$aEquity 615 4$aFinance 615 4$aFinancial Crisis 615 4$aFinancial Institutions 615 4$aFinancial Management 615 4$aFinancial Services 615 4$aFiscal Year 615 4$aForeign Direct Investment 615 4$aGood Governance 615 4$aGrants 615 4$aHuman Capital 615 4$aInflation 615 4$aInfrastructure 615 4$aInsurance 615 4$aInterest Rates 615 4$aInternational Finance 615 4$aJob Creation 615 4$aLabor Costs 615 4$aLand 615 4$aLaw and Development 615 4$aLoans 615 4$aPrivate Sector Development 615 4$aProductivity 615 4$aProfitability 615 4$aRegulators 615 4$aReputation 615 4$aRetirement 615 4$aReturn On Equity 615 4$aRisk 615 4$aRisk Management 615 4$aShareholder Protection 615 4$aTechnical Assistance 615 4$aTransparency 615 4$aTransport 712 02$aInternational Finance Corporation. 801 0$bDJBF 801 1$bDJBF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910832964703321 997 $aUNINA
