As well as engaging the tools and methods of literary analysis, the study uses a cultural studies approach to offer a constellation of ideas and polemics surrounding the readability of the human body. By including discussions from the medical sciences, epistemology, and aesthetics, the book draws out the multi-faceted permutations of corporeal legibility, as well as its relevance for the development of the novel and for facilitating inter-disciplinary dialogue. 330 1 $aBesprochen in:Monatshefte, 115/1 (2023), Armin Schäfer 410 0$aLettre (Transcript (Firm)) 517 2 $aStoicea, Fictions of Legibility$eThe Human Face and Body in Modern German Novels from Sophie von La Roche to Alfred Döblin 606 $aGerman Novels 606 $aEuropean Fiction 606 $aPhysiognomy In Literature 606 $aFacial Expression In Literature 606 $aHuman Body In Literature 606 $aBody Language In Literature 606 $aLiterature 606 $aBody 606 $aCultural History 606 $aGerman Literature 606 $aRacism 606 $aLiterary Studies 615 4$aGerman Novels 615 4$aEuropean Fiction 615 4$aPhysiognomy In Literature 615 4$aFacial Expression In Literature 615 4$aHuman Body In Literature 615 4$aBody Language In Literature 615 4$aLiterature 615 4$aBody 615 4$aCultural History 615 4$aGerman Literature 615 4$aRacism 615 4$aLiterary Studies 676 $a809.933561 700 $aStoicea$b Gabriela$p
