Through both evolutionary associations and cultural representations, insects have deeply infested our minds. They frighten, disgust, and sometimes enchant us. Whatever the case, few of us are ambivalent in the face of wasps, cockroaches, spiders, maggots, crickets or butterflies. They arouse terror, nausea, fascination-but rarely, if ever, indifference. And the costs of fear can be high, bothin terms of the quality of individual lives and with regard to our social responses, from soaking our food with insecticides to overlooking our dependence on the ecological roles of insects (including those on the brink of extinction). The book is an examination of what scientists, philosophers, andwriters have learned about the human-insect relationship. Jeffrey Lockwood is an entomologist himself and yet still experiences bouts of entomophobia; in fact, his seemingly paradoxical response to certain insects and scenarios is what prompted him to write this book. The book explores the nature of anxiety and phobia and the line between them. It examines entomophobia in the context of the nature-nurture debate, posing the question: how much of our fear of insects can be attributed to ourancestors' predisposition to avoid insects to benefit their own survival, and how much is learned through parents? Using his own and others' experiences with entomophobia as case studies, Lockwood breaks down common reactions to insects, distinguishing between fear and disgust, and inviting the reader toconsider his/her own emotional, cognitive, and physiological reactions to insects in a new light. 606 $aInsect phobia 606 $aFear 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aInsect phobia. 615 0$aFear. 676 $a616.85/225 700 $aLockwood$b Jeffrey Alan$f1960-$0879022 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910453135703321 996 $aThe infested mind$92282737 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03261nam 2200589Ia 450 001 9910830121403321 005 20230725023712.0 010 $a0-470-64982-8 010 $a1-119-19880-1 010 $a1-282-65379-2 010 $a9786612653797 010 $a0-470-64980-1 035 $a(CKB)2670000000031569 035 $a(EBL)547162 035 $a(OCoLC)652626168 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000416465 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12142657 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000416465 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10420798 035 $a(PQKB)10295734 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC547162 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000031569 100 $a20100301d2010 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 14$aThe Ed Ponsi Forex playbook$b[electronic resource] $estrategies and trade set-ups /$fEd Ponsi 210 $aHoboken, N.J. $cWiley$d2010 215 $a1 online resource (243 p.) 225 1 $aWiley Trading ;$vv.453 300 $aIncludes index. 311 $a0-470-50998-8 327 $aThe Ed Ponsi Forex Playbook: Strategies and Trade Set-Ups; Contents; Preface; Part I: Training Camp; Chapter 1: We Practice Like We Play; Chapter 2: The Playing Field; Chapter 3: Calculations and Standardizations; Chapter 4: Follow the Money; Part II: Scoring Points; Chapter 5: Using the U.S. Dollar Index; Chapter 6: Contrarian Indicators and the COT Report; Chapter 7: The Power of Observation; Chapter 8: Other People's Money; Part III: Winning the Championship; Chapter 9: The Easiest Points You'll Ever Score; Chapter 10: Hitting It for Six; Chapter 11: How to Trade Like a Hedge Fund 327 $aChapter 12: How to Trade Like a Rock StarChapter 13: Reach for the Sky; Chapter 14: Seeing into the Future; Part IV: Commitment to Excellence; Chapter 15: Purchasing Power Parity and the Big Mac Index; Chapter 16: "Should I Go Long the Lobster, or the Filet Mignon?"; Chapter 17: Swaps and Spreads; Chapter 18: Alphabet Soup: The BIS, the IMF, and the OECD; Part V: Staying in Shape; Chapter 19: For Every Winner, a Loser?; Chapter 20: Scam Avoidance Techniques; Chapter 21: Fire the Manager!; Afterword; About the Author; Index 330 $aA practical guide to trading the foreign exchange market The Ed Ponsi Forex Playbook offers a visual approach to learning specific trading strategies and identifying profitable trading opportunities in the Forex arena.
