Yet after the French Revolution many religious institutes were very successful in re-establishing themselves, sometimes accumulating large patrimonies, against the background of often hostile political forces. This book deals with the question of how the religious orders and congregations rebuilt their patrimony, a necessary prerequisite for the growth of the number of religious, educational and charitable services. The authors discuss the (real or supposed) wealth, the financial structures, and the management and juridical foundations of the orders and congregations in Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Ireland, and the United Kingdom from the late eighteenth century to the 1930s. 410 0$aKADOC studies on religion, culture, and society ;$v11. 606 $aChurch finance$zEurope$xHistory 606 $aReligious institutions$zEurope$xFinance$xHistory 615 0$aChurch finance$xHistory. 615 0$aReligious institutions$xFinance$xHistory. 676 $a201.73 676 $a270 702 $aKoppen$b Jimmy$f1977- 702 $aTyssens$b Jeffrey 702 $aDe Maeyer$b Jan$f1952- 702 $aDijck$b Maarten van 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910829899503321 996 $aThe Economics of Providence$94094885 997 $aUNINA
