Spieth and Marc Fumaroli. 330 $aSeventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish paintings were aesthetic, intellectual, and economic touchstones in the Parisian art world of the Revolutionary era, but their importance within this framework, while frequently acknowledged, never attracted much subsequent attention. Darius A. Spieth?s inquiry into Revolutionary Paris and the Market for Netherlandish Art reveals the dominance of ?Golden Age? pictures in the artistic discourse and sales transactions before, during, and after the French Revolution. A broadly based statistical investigation, undertaken as part of this study, shows that the upheaval reduced prices for Netherlandish paintings by about 55% compared to the Old Regime, and that it took until after the July Revolution of 1830 for art prices to return where they stood before 1789. 410 0$aStudies in the history of collecting & art markets ;$vVolume 3. 606 $aArt$zFrance$zParis$xMarketing$xHistory$y18th century 606 $aArt$zFrance$zParis$xMarketing$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aArt dealers$zFrance$zParis$xHistory$y18th century 606 $aArt dealers$zFrance$zParis$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aPainting$xEconomic aspects$zFrance$zParis$xHistory$y18th century 606 $aPainting$xEconomic aspects$zFrance$zParis$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aPainting, Dutch$y17th century 606 $aPainting, Flemish$y17th century 607 $aParis (France)$xCommerce$xHistory$y18th century 607 $aParis (France)$xCommerce$xHistory$y19th century 615 0$aArt$xMarketing$xHistory 615 0$aArt$xMarketing$xHistory 615 0$aArt dealers$xHistory 615 0$aArt dealers$xHistory 615 0$aPainting$xEconomic aspects$xHistory 615 0$aPainting$xEconomic aspects$xHistory 615 0$aPainting, Dutch 615 0$aPainting, Flemish 676 $a700.94436109033 700 $aSpieth$b Darius Alexander$f1970-$01673011 702 $aFumaroli$b Marc 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910828720603321 996 $aRevolutionary Paris and the market for Netherlandish art$94036788 997 $aUNINA
