It argues that most of these movements and their traditions emerged within the context of complex interaction between traditional families and disciple circles. The first part of the book examines the development of Jewish religious movements during the Second Temple period. It culminates with the discussion of the Dead Sea Sect, which is analyzed as the first unambiguous example of a movement shifting from a social structure based on families to a social structure based on disciple circles. The second part of the book discusses the history of pharisaic and early rabbinic movements from a similar perspective. Topics covered in the book will be of interest to scholars of Judaism and Early Christianity. 410 0$aSupplements to the Journal for the study of Judaism ;$vv. 102. 606 $aHouseholds$xReligious aspects$xJudaism 606 $aJudaism$xHistory$yPost-exilic period, 586 B.C.-210 A.D 606 $aJewish sects$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aJudaism$xSocial aspects 606 $aRabbinical literature$xHistory and criticism 615 0$aHouseholds$xReligious aspects$xJudaism. 615 0$aJudaism$xHistory 615 0$aJewish sects$xHistory 615 0$aJudaism$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aRabbinical literature$xHistory and criticism. 676 $a296/.09/014 700 $aSivertsev$b Alexei$f1973-$01751755 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910827904003321 996 $aHouseholds, sects, and the origins of rabbinic Judaism$94186860 997 $aUNINA
