She highlights the struggle between the Jesuits and Natives over the meaning of Christianity. The Jesuits' attempted to convey their Christian message through Native languages and cultural idioms. Blackburn shows that this resulted in the displacement of much of the content of the message and demonstrates that the Native people's acts of resistance took up and transformed aspects of the Jesuits' teachings in ways that subverted their authority. Harvest of Souls is essential for all those interested in new approaches to historical and contemporary relations between Europeans and Native peoples in North America. 410 0$aMcGill-Queen's native and northern series ;$v22. 606 $aIndians of North America$xMissions$zQue?bec (Province)$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aWyandot Indians$xMissions$zQue?bec (Province)$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aMontagnais Indians$xMissions$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aIndians of North America$xColonization$zQue?bec (Province)$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aAcculturation$zQue?bec (Province)$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aJe?suites$xMissions$zQue?bec (Province)$xHistoire$y17e sie?cle 606 $aIndiens d'ame?rique$xMissions$zQuebec (Province)$xHistoire$y16e sie?cle 607 $aQue?bec (Province)$xEthnic relations 615 0$aIndians of North America$xMissions$xHistory 615 0$aWyandot Indians$xMissions$xHistory 615 0$aMontagnais Indians$xMissions$xHistory 615 0$aIndians of North America$xColonization$xHistory 615 0$aAcculturation$xHistory 615 6$aJe?suites$xMissions$xHistoire 615 6$aIndiens d'ame?rique$xMissions$xHistoire 676 $a266/.2714 700 $aBlackburn$b Carole$f1963-$01655117 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910827834803321 996 $aHarvest of souls$94007345 997 $aUNINA
