Webster argues that libertines, both real and imagined, performed traditionally secretive acts, including excessive drinking, sex, sedition, and sacrilege, in the public sphere. This eruption of the private into the public challenged a Stuart ideology that distinguished between the nation's public life and the king's and his subjects' private consciences. 517 3 $aPerforming libertinism in Charles the Second's court 606 $aEnglish drama$yRestoration, 1660-1700$xHistory and criticism 606 $aLibertinism in literature 606 $aPolitics and literature$zGreat Britain$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aSex in literature 607 $aGreat Britain$xCourt and courtiers$xHistory$y17th century 607 $aGreat Britain$xPolitics and government$y1660-1688 615 0$aEnglish drama$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aLibertinism in literature. 615 0$aPolitics and literature$xHistory 615 0$aSex in literature. 676 $a822.409353 676 $a822/.409353 700 $aWebster$b Jeremy W$01685495 712 02$aOhio University Faculty Authors Collection.$bEnglish. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910826408003321 996 $aPerforming libertinism in Charles II's court$94057672 997 $aUNINA
