Drawing largely on diaries, memoirs and private correspondence, A Circle of Friends is a social history of political exile, presenting the personal life dramas of the protagonists within the wider context of the European post-revolutionary turmoil of the 1850's. Exile and political repression allied this group not only to their Hungarian and Polish peers, but also to French republicans, English radicals and Italian freedom-fighters. Their story reveals the existence of transnational networks of left-wing, radical and republican movements in mid-nineteenth-century Europe against the background of nation-building projects in East-Central Europe. 410 0$aBalkan studies library ;$vv. 3. 606 $aRevolutionaries$zRomania$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aRevolutionaries$zRomania$vBiography 606 $aExiles$zRomania$vBiography 606 $aExiles$zEurope$vBiography 606 $aTransnationalism$xPolitical aspects$zEurope$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aNation-building$zEurope$xHistory$y19th century 607 $aRomania$xHistory$y1821-1859$vBiography 607 $aRomania$xHistory$yRevolution, 1848 607 $aRomania$xPolitics and government$y1821-1866 607 $aEurope$xPolitics and government$y1848-1871 615 0$aRevolutionaries$xHistory 615 0$aRevolutionaries 615 0$aExiles 615 0$aExiles 615 0$aTransnationalism$xPolitical aspects$xHistory 615 0$aNation-building$xHistory 676 $a949.8/016 700 $aJianu$b Angela$01614287 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910826109403321 996 $aA circle of friends$93944045 997 $aUNINA
