Pyramid Texts of the Old Kingdom after a process of ?democratisation? became, in the Middle Kingdom, accessible even to the average Egyptian in the form of the Coffin Texts. Rather they remained an element of elite funerary culture, and particularly so in the Upper Egyptian nomes. The author traces the emergence here of the so-called ?nomarchs? and their survival in the Middle Kingdom. The site of Dayr al-Barsh?, currently under excavation, shows how nomarch cemeteries could even develop into large-scale processional landscapes intended for the cult of the local ruler. This book also provides an updated list of the hundreds of (mostly unpublished) Middle Kingdom coffins and proposes a new reference system for these. 410 0$aCulture and history of the ancient Near East ;$vVolume 73. 606 $aFuneral rites and ceremonies, Ancient$zEgypt 606 $aCemeteries$zEgypt$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aTombs$xSocial aspects$zEgypt$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aElite (Social sciences)$zEgypt$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aDemocratization$zEgypt$xHistory$yTo 1500 607 $aEgypt$xAntiquities 607 $aEgypt$xHistory$yMiddle Kingdom, ca. 2180-ca. 1551 B.C 607 $aEgypt$xReligious life and customs 615 0$aFuneral rites and ceremonies, Ancient 615 0$aCemeteries$xHistory 615 0$aTombs$xSocial aspects$xHistory 615 0$aElite (Social sciences)$xHistory 615 0$aDemocratization$xHistory 676 $a893/.1 700 $aWillems$b Harco$0169425 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910825860603321 996 $aHistorical and archaeological aspects of Egyptian funerary culture$94054845 997 $aUNINA
