Once population is controlled for, poverty consistently appears as the main worldwide determinant of NGO aid allocation. NGOs do not respond to strategic considerations. Their funding source does not seem to exert a great influence on their aid allocation decision. We also find differences across regions. Militarization and the political nature of the regime of the recipient country affect aid allocation in the Middle East. Life expectancy influences aid allocation in countries in the Western Hemisphere and the Middle East. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/039 606 $aNon-governmental organizations$zEurope 606 $aEconomic assistance, European 606 $aEuropean cooperation 606 $aExports and Imports$2imf 606 $aNGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations)$2imf 606 $aPoverty and Homelessness$2imf 606 $aNonprofit Institutions$2imf 606 $aNGOs$2imf 606 $aSocial Entrepreneurship$2imf 606 $aForeign Aid$2imf 606 $aHealth: General$2imf 606 $aWelfare, Well-Being, and Poverty: General$2imf 606 $aCivil service & public sector$2imf 606 $aInternational economics$2imf 606 $aHealth economics$2imf 606 $aPoverty & precarity$2imf 606 $aNongovernmental organizations$2imf 606 $aHealth$2imf 606 $aForeign aid$2imf 606 $aPoverty$2imf 606 $aAid flows$2imf 606 $aNon-governmental organizations$2imf 606 $aInternational relief$2imf 606 $aEconomic assistance$2imf 607 $aBangladesh$2imf 615 0$aNon-governmental organizations 615 0$aEconomic assistance, European. 615 0$aEuropean cooperation. 615 7$aExports and Imports 615 7$aNGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) 615 7$aPoverty and Homelessness 615 7$aNonprofit Institutions 615 7$aNGOs 615 7$aSocial Entrepreneurship 615 7$aForeign Aid 615 7$aHealth: General 615 7$aWelfare, Well-Being, and Poverty: General 615 7$aCivil service & public sector 615 7$aInternational economics 615 7$aHealth economics 615 7$aPoverty & precarity 615 7$aNongovernmental organizations 615 7$aHealth 615 7$aForeign aid 615 7$aPoverty 615 7$aAid flows 615 7$aNon-governmental organizations 615 7$aInternational relief 615 7$aEconomic assistance 700 $aNancy$b Gilles$01685916 701 $aYontcheva$b Boriana$01685917 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund. 712 02$aIMF Institute. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910825689003321 996 $aDoes NGO Aid Go to the Poor?
