POSSIBLE THEORETICAL TREATMENT OF REMITTANCES""; ""VI. REFERENCES"" 330 3 $aThe paper seeks to assess the macroeconomic implications of large-scale inward remittances for a small open economy. By including remittances in several standard models, the paper concludes that the overall macroeconomic impact of remittances is likely to be ambiguous. The impact depends on the structural characteristics of the receiving country, in particular its consumption and investment patterns, and its capacity to manage large financial inflows. As data deficiencies and methodological problems associated with remittances preclude crosscountry empirical investigation, the paper illustrates these findings with data on Tajikistan, where remittances as a share of GDP are among the highest in the world. The paper also evaluates the pros and cons of remittances in a broader political economy context. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2006/002 606 $aEmigrant remittances$zTajikistan$xEconometric models 606 $aLabor market$zTajikistan 606 $aAggregate Factor Income Distribution$2imf 606 $aBanking$2imf 606 $aBanks and Banking$2imf 606 $aBanks and banking$2imf 606 $aBanks$2imf 606 $aCommercial banks$2imf 606 $aDepository Institutions$2imf 606 $aEmigration and Immigration$2imf 606 $aEmigration and immigration$2imf 606 $aExports and Imports$2imf 606 $aIncome economics$2imf 606 $aIncome$2imf 606 $aInternational economics$2imf 606 $aInternational finance$2imf 606 $aInternational Migration$2imf 606 $aLabor economics$2imf 606 $aLabor Economics: General$2imf 606 $aLabor$2imf 606 $aLabour$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aMicro Finance Institutions$2imf 606 $aMigration$2imf 606 $aMigration, immigration & emigration$2imf 606 $aMortgages$2imf 606 $aRemittances$2imf 607 $aTajikistan, Republic of$2imf 615 0$aEmigrant remittances$xEconometric models. 615 0$aLabor market 615 7$aAggregate Factor Income Distribution 615 7$aBanking 615 7$aBanks and Banking 615 7$aBanks and banking 615 7$aBanks 615 7$aCommercial banks 615 7$aDepository Institutions 615 7$aEmigration and Immigration 615 7$aEmigration and immigration 615 7$aExports and Imports 615 7$aIncome economics 615 7$aIncome 615 7$aInternational economics 615 7$aInternational finance 615 7$aInternational Migration 615 7$aLabor economics 615 7$aLabor Economics: General 615 7$aLabor 615 7$aLabour 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aMicro Finance Institutions 615 7$aMigration 615 7$aMigration, immigration & emigration 615 7$aMortgages 615 7$aRemittances 700 $aKireyev$b Alexei$01378422 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bPolicy Development and Review Dept. 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910825681803321 996 $aThe Macroeconomics of Remittances$94058356 997 $aUNINA
